The Doctoral Academy is looking for enthusiastic and motivated Postgraduate Researchers (PGRs) to help organise the Postgraduate Research Festival in May 2026.

The annual Festival is a key event for the LJMU PGR Community. It is an opportunity for PGRs from all schools and faculties to come together, share research with a wide audience, and take part in a programme of activities related to the PGR experience. The coordinator roles are a great opportunity to gain transferable skills and experiences to enhance your academic achievements and employability. 

Duties and responsibilities
The coordinators will be employed on a part-time basis for a total of 50 hours between January and May 2026. They will be responsible for the following tasks:

1) Developing programme content: deciding on a theme, keynote speaker(s), discussions, workshops or other activities that will be relevant and engaging for a cross-disciplinary PGR audience. 
2) Event Planning and management: attending regular planning meetings; ; using a Teams site to share ideas and update on progress in between meetings; overseeing PGR submissions (eg. posters); liaising with speakers, judges and facilitators; overseeing event bookings,  and coordinating catering and venue set-up. 
3) Marketing and communications: developing branding and communications to promote the festival. This includes developing website and social media content, circulating calls for contributions, managing the PGR Festival email inbox, and producing a printed festival brochure.  
4) Event delivery and post-event: helping with event set up, introducing speakers and co-chairing sessions; leading networking or social activities and/or facilitating PGR-led workshops or discussions; supporting the evaluation of the event. 

The coordinators will work closely with the Doctoral Academy who will provide logistical support and the budget for the event. 

Skills and experience

Essential knowledge, skills and experience:

• An understanding of the postgraduate researcher experience and a knowledge of the topics that would engage a diverse community of PGRs• Experience of attending PGR events and conferences. 

• Planning and organisational skills, with an ability to prioritise workloads.

• Strong communication, interpersonal and team-working skills.

• Excellent writing skills with experience of producing high quality written documents. 

Desirable:  

• Experience of supporting events and/or experience of delivering workshops or teaching.
