Kuumba Imani Millennium Centre has been a cornerstone of community leadership and empowerment since opening in 2004. Founded through the efforts of local activists, the Liverpool Black Sisters, the organisation was created to improve outcomes for local women and their families. Over the past two decades, it has grown into one of the city’s most significant community-led institutions.

Located in Liverpool 8 — the historic heart of Liverpool’s Black community — Kuumba Imani continues to play a vital role in a neighbourhood deeply affected by structural inequality. With recent figures showing that 69% of children aged 0–15 in Toxteth are living in poverty, our work remains as important as ever.

Our mission is to strengthen wellbeing, resilience, and cultural and economic development across our community. We support individuals, grassroots organisations and social enterprises to access the resources, skills and opportunities they need to thrive. All of our programmes are rooted in community voice and co-designed through ongoing conversations with local residents.

We are now entering a period of growth and business development, and we are seeking an intern to join us during this exciting phase. This role will sit within our central leadership team and work directly alongside the Chief Executive Officer. Duties will be shaped around the intern’s skills and interests, offering a supportive environment for learning and professional development.

Duties and responsibilities
Main duties may include:

  • Contributing to website updates and content creation.
  • Supporting management of our online presence, including social media planning, content creation and basic marketing strategy development.
  • Assisting with the planning and coordination of events and conferences that generate income to support our charitable aims.
  • Assisting with Social Value and Impact reporting, including helping review data processes, developing simple research tools, and engaging service users to gather feedback.
  • Acting as a point of contact for community groups using our space to deliver projects and activities.
This internship offers a meaningful opportunity to contribute to community development work, gain hands-on experience across multiple areas, and play a part in shaping the next chapter of Kuumba Imani’s journey.

This role would be suitable for students studying: Marketing, Communications, Business Studies, Sociology or anybody with a keen interest in community work who is a fast learner and wants experience in the charity sector.
