Description
Role
We’re EDLA, a small but passionate boutique landscape architecture practice based in Canterbury. As chartered members of the Landscape Institute, we work on a wide range of exciting projects that shape the places people live, work, and enjoy. Curious to see what we do and how we think? Take a look at our projects and approach here: edla.co.uk.
As a Graduate Landscape Assistant (Landscape Planning), you’ll be part of a small, supportive team where you’ll quickly gain hands-on experience and learn from Chartered Landscape Architects. You’ll help us shape thoughtful, sensitive landscapes - working on real projects that make a positive difference.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who’s curious, analytical, and creative, with an interest in how planning and design work together to influence the future of places.
Duties and responsibilities
You’ll support our team in a variety of tasks, including:
- Preparing GIS mapping and baseline plans for Landscape and Visual Impact Assessments (LVIA).
- Helping with administrative and technical tasks - issuing drawings, organising files, and keeping projects running smoothly.
- Joining site visits to understand landscapes first-hand.
- Creating accurate photo montages and visual annotations.
- Supporting project leads to meet deadlines and deliver quality work.
- Helping with research and writing for LVIA reports, especially the baseline sections.
- Over time, you’ll develop your skills to take on more of the LVIA process yourself.
- Building great working relationships with clients and consultants.
- Learning about landscape character, planning policy, and environmental strategy with guidance from your team.
You’ll get plenty of support and mentoring - and the chance to grow your confidence, skills, and professional understanding at your own pace.
Skills and experience
You don’t need to have all the experience yet - we’re looking for enthusiasm, curiosity, and a willingness to learn.
- A degree in landscape architecture, geography, town planning, or a related subject.
- Good communication skills - both written and verbal - and the ability to express ideas clearly.
- An interest in landscape planning, analysis, and environmental design.
- Attention to detail and a methodical approach to tasks.
- A positive attitude and the ability to work both independently and as part of a small team.
- Some familiarity with GIS software would be great, but it’s not essential - we’ll help you learn.
- A full UK driving licence.
- Friendly, approachable, and confident communicating your ideas.
- Motivated, curious, and ready to grow.
- Comfortable working in a close-knit, collaborative team.
- Passionate about making a real impact through thoughtful landscape planning
