THE ROLE
On behalf of our Leicester Client, we are looking to recruit a Graduate Product Design Engineer.
Our client seeks a Graduate Design Engineer to research, evaluate, and design an efficient tablet dispensing system for the production of its environmentally friendly cleaning solution. The role involves identifying practical solutions, presenting findings clearly, and developing cost-effective design modifications to integrate seamlessly with the company’s existing system.
The role is to work up to 20 hours for the client.
This project represents a pivotal stage in client's product development and launch strategy. The successful candidate will work closely with the management team, gaining valuable exposure to the decision-making process within a growing startup. The role requires enthusiasm, responsibility, and a strong work ethic to contribute effectively to the company’s progress.

Location: The research will be conducted primarily desk-based and virtually, with face-to-face meetings at the project’s start and conclusion.
Regular online meetings will provide support, feedback, and guidance throughout the project.
Duties and responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive literature and market research to identify alternative methods for dispensing tablets of a specific size into water.
- Design and develop a tablet dispensing system for integration into the client’s existing production device.
- Evaluate multiple dispensing mechanisms (e.g. hopper systems, tube release mechanisms, conveyor systems) for suitability, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
- Prepare a detailed report summarizing potential solutions, including pros and cons of each option.
- Present findings and recommendations to the client in a clear, non-technical manner to support decision-making.
- Assess whether the new dispensing solution can be implemented without major redesign of the existing system.
- If redesign is necessary, produce design modifications ensuring simplicity, functionality, and cost efficiency.
- Collaborate with the internal team to ensure the new system meets performance, safety, and commercial requirements.
Skills and experience
- The successful candidate should be a graduate design engineer with a good eye for detail as there is an element of literature research involved with this project.
- Able to turn ideas into real-world solution
- Be able to communicate engineering theory in a simple to understand way, so the business can understand its options and make a decision
- Degree (or working towards)in Mechanical, Design, or Manufacturing Engineering (or a closely related discipline).
- Strong research and analytical skills for identifying and comparing engineering solutions.
- Concept-to-prototype design skills – ability to translate ideas into practical, manufacturable systems.
- Attention to detail in both research and design documentation.
- Excellent written communication skills for producing clear and concise technical reports.
- Ability to explain complex engineering concepts in simple, accessible language to non-technical stakeholders.
- Understanding of cost-effective engineering and product optimisation principles.
- Problem-solving mindset with the ability to adapt existing technologies to meet specific design challenges.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills for collaborating across functions.
