Role
Working as part of a small and supportive team, the Active Life Advisor will contribute to the delivery of the University’s Sport & Active Life service within the Sports Centre and associated facilities. You will play a key role in supporting our community of students, staff, and members to achieve their fitness and wellbeing goals through professional guidance, motivation, and exceptional customer service. This is an exciting opportunity to make a positive impact by helping individuals maximise the effectiveness of their fitness activities in a welcoming and inclusive environment.
Duties and responsibilities
As an Active Life Advisor, you will conduct individual and group inductions to ensure members are familiar with the safe and effective use of gym equipment. You will provide tailored fitness advice and design personalised training programmes in consultation with customers to help them achieve their goals. The role involves welcoming and supporting members, managing gym access, and completing day-to-day administrative tasks. You will be responsible for monitoring and maintaining fitness equipment to ensure the facilities remain clean, safe, and well presented. In addition, you will uphold and implement the University’s operational Health and Safety procedures, including pool responder duties when required. You will also contribute to reporting on gym usage and play an active role in enhancing the overall member experience and continuous improvement of the service.
Skills and experience
To be successful in this role, you must hold a recognised certified fitness qualification equivalent to REPS Level 2. You will have experience working within a customer service or fitness environment and demonstrate confident IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Strong communication and interpersonal abilities are essential, along with a commitment to supporting an inclusive, positive, and motivating member experience. You should be able to maintain high standards of health, safety, and hygiene in all areas of work. The successful candidate will be required to pass an enhanced DBS check. Please note that applicants without a current Level 2 gym or fitness qualification cannot be considered for this position.
