Role
This is a 12-week paid internship opportunity with Henley Engineers, as part of the WMG Internship Programme and in collaboration with Made Smarter. Based at Henley’s in Henley-In-Arden, you will play a key role in supporting the company’s marketing and business development strategy- helping to identify how business development can reach new clients, improve brand visibility, and strengthen sales pipelines.
As a Marketing & Business Development Intern, you’ll work closely with the marketing function and leadership team to support the company’s strategic aim of securing new, long-term clients and delivering organic sales growth over the next three years. You will gain experience across market research, social media management, SEO, and campaign delivery, while contributing directly to measurable business outcomes.
By the end of the internship, you will have:• Supported the delivery of a targeted marketing and business development plan• Helped drive client engagement through improved website and social media activity• Contributed to an increase in quality leads and brand visibility• Developed skills in marketing analytics, project management, and client communication• Produced a personal STAR summary showcasing your achievements and learning outcomes

Duties and responsibilities
We are looking for an ambitious and analytical Marketing & Business Development Intern to join the Henley Engineers team. Working closely with the marketing and senior leadership teams, you will support the company’s client engagement and marketing strategies to strengthen its market position.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting market and client research to identify potential new business opportunities across commercial supply chains
- Conducting market and client research using open-source and publicly available information in compliance with University export control guidance.
- Supporting the planning and scheduling of marketing and social media campaigns, including LinkedIn and industry trade bodies such as Make UK
- Helping to manage and monitor website performance, including SEO reporting, monthly KPI tracking, and analysing conversion trends
- Assisting with the creation and coordination of marketing materials, digital content, and campaigns to drive client engagement
- Working with internal teams to gather performance data, measure campaign success, and identify areas for improvement
- Developing a reflective STAR summary highlighting your contributions to process improvements and strategic outcomes
- You’ll receive ongoing guidance throughout your placement and have the opportunity to take ownership of key tasks as your confidence grows.
Skills and experience
Essential:
- You must hold or be working towards a degree in Marketing, Business, Communications, or a related subject
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Familiarity with SEO tools and digital marketing techniques
- Experience in a commercial environment
- Confident using LinkedIn and other social media platforms for professional marketing
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and identify trends
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Excel and PowerPoint)
- Organised and proactive, with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Keen interest in marketing, business growth, and client development
Desirable:
- Experience using Canva, WordPress, or other content management systems
- Understanding of digital marketing metrics and campaign reporting
- Previous experience in marketing, business development, or communications (through a placement, internship, or university project)
- Interest in the engineering or manufacturing sectors
