Role

Demonstrators will undertake teaching support and administrative duties in relation to identified areas of Geography and foundation year teaching delivery to support the highest quality service to students.

Duties and responsibilities

Supporting the learning of undergraduate and foundation year students in face to face delivery of practical classes.

GY0011 Principles of Earth Science and Earth Systems  (1 role, up to 15 hours) 5 practical sessions of 3 hours each. Module convenor: Jens Zinke

GL1104 Natural Resources and the Environment.  16 hours on campus (2 hours a week), normally split between 2 demonstrators (8 hours each).  Module convenor is David Holwell.

GL1105 Geological Maps and Structures.  1 demonstrator, 28 hours on campus.  Module convenor is Sarah Lee.

GL1108 Our Dynamic Planet.  Up to 34 hours on campus, normally split between 2 demonstrators (17 hours each).  Module convenor is Marc Reichow

GL2102 Structure and Tectonics.  Up to 36 hours on campus, can be split between 2 demonstrators (1 demonstrator for 28 hours, 1 demonstrator for 8 hours).  Module convenor is Gawen Jenkin

GL2105 Depositional Processes and Environments.  1 demonstrator, 32 hours on campus.  Module convenor is Sarah Lee.

 

Skills and experience

To be considered for this role, you must have successfully completed at least the first year of the degree in which demonstrator support is being provided, or hold an equivalent level of knowledge. You will bring practical experience of applying relevant skills and techniques, along with strong analytical and communication abilities. 

Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively both as part of a team and independently are essential, as is proficiency in English to support teaching and administrative duties. 

An appreciation of safety in laboratory or fieldwork settings is required, together with a commitment to demonstrating behaviours in line with the University’s values of inclusivity, inspiration and impact. 

Desirable attributes include a First Aid qualification, where applicable, and prior experience of demonstrating or teaching undergraduate students.
