Role
This role is open to DMU students

 We are seeking Building Monitors to work Saturdays 10am until 4pm - the rota will consist of 2 people on shift each Saturday and you will be allocated shifts upon recruitment *please note you wont be allocated every Saturday.
To ensure the safety and security of students working out of core hours within studio and laboratory spaces in buildings connected to the Faculty of Technology, Arts and Culture in Bede Island building. 
 
To report record all activities in a shift activity log and to alert Security colleagues to any emergency or unsafe situations. To act as Fire Warden and Emergency First Aider where required and to support Security staff with any Health & Safety incidents

Duties and responsibilities
1.To patrol and monitor all designated space(s) 

2. To ensure that students using the buildings are following the specified health and safety working practices. 
3. To ensure only fully enrolled students, carrying suitable ID, are using the spaces. 
4. To liaise closely with DMU Security and to immediately raise any incident involving a suspected breach of security or serious threat to student health and safety; 
5. To report in to Security at the start and end of each shift and alert any staff working of your presence. 
6. In the event of an emergency, to evacuate the building as you are instructed to and to make yourself available to assist DMU Security staff if needed as a fire warden or first aider. 
7. To ensure students are out of the building in good time for the Building Wardens to lock up at the designated time. 
8. Where possible, undertake a housekeeping check of your spaces so that windows are shut at the end of the day, fire escape doors are properly secured, plugs are not left in electrical sockets, taps are not left running and lights are off. Ensure spaces are left tidy, and report any unacceptable mess or damage to your line manager. 
9. To complete your daily report sheet, sign it off and leave it in the designated place to be collected. 
10. To undertake and record occupancy levels if required. 
11. Perform any other duties commensurate with the job grade as reasonably required from time to time

Skills and experience
Ability to communicate well

 
Able to withstand longer periods of being on your feet
 
Comfortable with lone workingprevious experience patrolling would be desirable
