Role
We are pleased to invite applications from current Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) students for four fixed-term roles to support the Operating Department Practitioner – Support for Upskilling, Retention, Growth and Education (ODP-SURGE) project funded by NHS England to explore workforce reform priorities within ODP. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a significant initiative shaping the future of the ODP workforce.

 
Successful student applicants will work alongside a project team of principal investigators, researchers, project fellows and other key stakeholders to support the relevant workstreams activities. A significant focus for student project fellows will be in the co-production of materials aimed at showcasing the ODP profession in time for National ODP day on 14th May 2026. Successful applicants will be expected to participate in coordinating and hosting knowledge mobilisation events.
 
Candidates must be current students of Canterbury Christ Church University or other collaborating university (University of East Anglia, University of Leeds), applications are invited from students at any point in their pre-registration studies.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Work alongside Principal Investigators and the project team to develop strategies for raising awareness of the ODP profession
  • Contribute to co-creator group with multiple stakeholders (academics, students, practice placements)
  • Support data collection methods in collaboration with the project team
  • Assist in development of materials for the National ODP Day 2026
  • Contribute to producing outputs in various formats (written, verbal, visual) for publication, conferences, final reports and dissemination at National ODP day 2026
  • Attend and contribute to regular meetings of project group
  • Undertake tasks within own limitations as allocated by Principal Investigator

Skills and experience

  1. Experience of project-based work to meet deadlines (paid or unpaid)
  2. Knowledge of practice education processes in Operating Department Practice
  3. Understanding of need for evidence-based practice within Operating Department Practice
  4. Experience of working with Microsoft applications such as MS Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, Forms, Shared Drive
  5. Evidence of working in/contributing to a successful team
  6. Provide insight of ODP profession from learner perspective
  7. Appreciation of need to engage stakeholders/audience to effect change
  8. Excellent attention to detail
  9. Appreciation of multidisciplinary working
  10. Strong listening, communication and collaboration skills
  11. Ability to work under pressure and keep to deadlines
  12. Ability to contribute to production of social media materials to communicate project outputs
