THE ROLE

Our client De Montfort Unviersity are currently recruiting a Cheer for Fun Instructor. This role is a campus based role working the following hours: 1 hour per week, Wednesday 16.30pm - 17:30pm. 

The location of the role will be at: Campus-based work at The Watershed, De Montfort University.

Overview:

To deliver inclusive, engaging, and enjoyable weekly cheerleading sessions that encourage student participation, physical activity, and social connection. The Instructor will create a fun and welcoming environment for all abilities, helping students build confidence and develop new skills while promoting long-term engagement in physical activity.

• Plan and deliver a weekly “Cheer for Fun” session suitable for all abilities.

• Promote inclusivity and engagement, focusing on enjoyment, teamwork, and confidence-building.

• Act as a point of contact for students, providing guidance, encouragement, and positive reinforcement.

• Support DMUsport’s wider participation programmes by signposting opportunities for continued involvement.

• Assist with promotion of the sessions via social media,

Duties and responsibilities

Session Delivery & Planning

• Design and deliver fun, safe, and engaging cheerleading sessions for students of all abilities

.• Adapt activities to ensure accessibility and enjoyment for new participants.

Communication & Relationship Management

• Act as a welcoming point of contact for participants.

• Liaise with DMUsport staff to ensure effective delivery and promotion of sessions

Logistics & Operations

• Ensure safe use of space and equipment in line with health and safety requirements.

• Create a positive and inclusive environment that supports participation

.• Monitoring & Evaluation• Record attendance and provide feedback on session quality and engagement.

• Suggest opportunities to improve student experience and increase retention.

Development & Sustainability

• Encourage students to continue participating in DMUsport programmes.

• Contribute ideas for enhancing the visibility and long-term growth of the activity.

The post holder is required to minimise environmental impact in the performance of the role, seek to promote environmental sustainability within area of responsibility and actively contribute to the delivery of the DMU Environmental Policy.

Skills and experience
Essential

• Experience of delivering group exercise sessions in cheerleading
.• Relevant qualification(s) or certification in the activity area.
• Ability to plan and deliver engaging, inclusive sessions for students of all abilities.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with participants.
• Commitment to creating a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment.
• Reliable, organised, and able to work independently.
• Understanding of, and commitment to, equality, diversity, and inclusion.
• Willingness to record attendance, provide feedback, and support the development of DMUsport programmes.
 
Desirable
• Experience working in a higher education or community sport setting
.• Knowledge of student wellbeing and participation in sport/physical activity.
• Ability to adapt delivery to meet the needs of diverse groups.
• First Aid qualification.• Awareness of environmental sustainability within sport and physical activity delivery.
