Faculty Leaders are a new student leadership role at MDXSU, designed to strengthen academic representation across the University. Sitting between Student Voice Leaders (SVLs) and the Education Officer, Faculty Leaders will support and develop SVLs in their faculty, collate student feedback, and represent the voice of students at faculty-level meetings.
This role is an opportunity to gain paid leadership experience while directly shaping the academic experience of students in your faculty. Faculty Leaders will act as ambassadors for MDXSU, empowering students to raise issues, working with University staff to create positive change, and contributing to a more connected student community.
Duties and responsibilities
Accountabilities: What you are answerable for (the outcomes you must deliver)
The Faculty Leader role is central to improving the academic experience of students. You will be accountable for:
- Acting as the first point of contact for Student Voice Leaders (SVLs) within your faculty, ensuring they are supported and engaged.
- Building and maintaining strong working relationships with Programme Leaders and key University staff to ensure student voices influence faculty-level decisions.
- Collating, analysing, and escalating common themes from SVL feedback to the Education Officer and Student Voice Team.
- Representing students at faculty-level meetings, Education Leaders’ Forum and Union Council, ensuring student perspectives are consistently voiced.
- Acting as a positive ambassador for MDXSU, empowering students to speak up and helping to build course-based societies and academic communities.
- Upholding MDXSU’s values, equal opportunities policies, and data protection regulations in all aspects of your work.
Responsibilities: What you do to fulfil your accountabilities (the tasks and actions)
In order to fulfil these accountabilities, you will be expected to:
- Provide regular communication and support to SVLs in your faculty, helping them to fulfil their roles effectively.
- Help deliver training, support sessions, and communications to engage and retain SVLs.
- Work with SVLs to identify trends in student feedback and co-develop potential solutions.
- Ensure student feedback is accurately represented at faculty-level meetings and outcomes are communicated back to SVLs and students.
- Contribute to MDXSU’s wider academic representation system, including attending Education Leaders’ Forums and Union events.
- Support the creation and growth of course-based societies and initiatives that strengthen academic communities.
- Attend and provide updates at Union Council on progress, challenges, and key themes emerging from your faculty.
Skills and experience
Criteria
- Current Middlesex University student, enrolled in the 2025–26 academic year
Knowledge and Experience
Desirable
- Experience as a Student Voice Leader (SVL), or equivalent representative role
- Understanding of the role of MDXSU and academic representation at Middlesex University
- Experience in leadership, teamwork, or supporting peers

Meetings
Faculty Leaders will be expected to attend a range of meetings and forums where they represent the views and experiences of students, share feedback, and contribute to decision-making. These include:
- Faculty ESE (Education & Student Experience) Committee – Working with staff and student representatives to discuss teaching, learning, and wider student experience issues within the faculty.
- Programme Voice Groups (PVGs) – Ensuring student feedback from across programmes is represented, raising themes and working with staff to resolve concerns.
- Education Leaders Forum (ELF) – Connecting with other Education Leaders across the University to share ideas, explore common themes, and strengthen collaboration.
- Union Council – Representing the academic voice within the wider student union decision-making body, contributing to policies and discussions that impact all students.
- Training & Development – Attending training sessions to build skills, knowledge, and confidence in the role, and where appropriate, helping to facilitate training for other student leaders.
- Awards & Recognition – Taking part in events that celebrate student contributions and successes.
- Leaders Lounge – Engaging with peers in an informal space for networking, sharing practice, and strengthening the student voice community.
