Role
The Student Opportunity team alongside the School of Life Sciences, Warwick Medical School, and Warwick Enterprise are undertaking a project to develop and create materials on the skill of Leadership.
We will be exploring Warwick Student and alumni experiences and perspectives of leadership, reviewing existing theory and materials on leadership development to create frameworks and resources to support curricular and co-curricular learning.
We are seeking Student Project Officers representatives from each faculty/department featured in the project who are interested in the topic of leadership and have experience of qualitative and quantitive research methods, resource creation?
This project will have both quantitative and qualitative elements. Student Project officers will receive relevant training on conducting desk based research and focus group and survey research methods where appropriate, and be involved in the design, delivery, analysis and outputs of the project.
Duties and responsibilities
The Student Project Officers will work with support from Student Opportunity, School of Life Science, Warwick Medical School staff, and in partnership with students, Academic Departments and other university teams, to:
- Conduct desk based research and reviews of existing leadership models and resources within and outside Warwick
- Design and issue surveys/case studies focussing on experiences of leadership qualities for partuclar student cohorts/alumni
- Design and conduct interviews focussing on the experiences of leadership qualities and skills development for particular student cohorts and alumni.
- Collect and analyse findings to identify trends and patterns
- Contribute to research outputs including:
- Support the creation of case studies and resources and materials that develop leadership for Warwick students, within and outside curriculum.
- Review and feedback on teaching materials to ensure they are impactful/fit for purpose
- Co-create and review the Warwick Award Leadership Development Pathway, an open access co-curricluar structured learning resource.
- Present the findings in relevant meetings and events within the institution and across the sector, such as relevant conferences
- Carry out other tasks as directed by the project lead
Skills and experience
Essential
- A current Student from SLS x 1, WMS x1, Arts x1, Soc Sci x1
- An interest in leadership and improving leadership development resources for Warwick students
- Excellent research and analytical skills, with the ability to draw conclusions and recommendations from information available.
- Strong understanding of the importance of impartiality in research methodologies
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, adaptable for different audiences.
- Personable, approachable and flexible.
- An organised approach and ability to prioritise and adhere to deadlines.
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Excellent IT skills, including a high degree of proficiency with MS suite including Teams, Word, Excel and Outlook
Desirable
- Demonstrable project planning skills, of any type of project.
- Experience of creating engaging resources or materials to help others learn
- Experience of undertaking a literature review
- Experience of designing and running focus groups
- Experience of using transcription and data analysis software including NVivo
