Role
The University of Edinburgh is currently offering a part-time opportunity for a student to join the Website and Communications (WAC) team as a Community Engagement & Events Intern. The WAC team deliver web and portal services, such as the University Website and the MyEd Student and Staff Portal; and oversee strategic activities aiming to improve the performance of the University’s web estate. Within this role you will work with the University Website, Portal Services and UX Teams to support them in planning and organising community activities and events.

This is an exciting opportunity for you to gain experience in planning and organising events, whilst developing your written communication skills by writing reports.

You can expect to start work on the 24th November 2025 and work until November 2026. You can expect to work 15 hours per week in a hybrid working pattern split between working from home and in our office in Edinburgh, Argyle House. During this position, you will be paid £13.01 per hour, plus £2.35 per hour holiday pay. Payment is one month in arrears, meaning your first payment date (should this position start when expected) will be 19th December 2025. 

Duties and responsibilities

  • Working closely with the University Website, Portal Services, and UX teams to plan and organise events for university communities;
  • Managing event logistics, such as room and catering bookings, invitation and attendees, and on-the-day requirements and organisation;
  • Requesting, receiving, and collating feedback from attendees and participants;
  • Writing reports relevant to event organisation and attendance, using feedback from attendees.
 

Skills and experience
Essential criteria:

  • A current Undergraduate, Postgraduate Taught, or part-time Postgraduate Research student at the University of Edinburgh (this post is designated for UoE student employment; therefore, you must be a matriculated student for the duration of your employment). You also must not hold the position of ‘Resident Assistant’;
  • Based in the UK for the duration of the work, able to work on campus when required (we cannot accommodate individuals working overseas due to tax and legal implications), and able to attend a Right to Work Check in person if you are a British or Irish Passport holder;
  • Demonstrable experience in organising events with clear agendas and outcomes, and an enthusiasm for the value of community and group engagement;
  • A proven understanding of the logistics required to plan, schedule and run events, including related administrative processes (e.g., booking rooms, catering, managing attendee lists and handling logistics);
  • Demonstrable ability to structure clear, concise reports using data and feedback;
  • A proven awareness of common methods to collect and analyse feedback.
Desirable Criteria:
  • A proven familiarity with digital engagement tools and platforms, such as Teams or mailing list systems, for managing invitations.

Hybrid split between working from home and in Argyle House, 3 Lady Lawson Street, Edinburgh, EH3 9DR
