Role
The International Conference of Undergraduate Research (ICUR) is an annual, two-day academic conference that showcases the best in undergraduate research from around the world. It provides undergraduate researchers with a unique opportunity to present their research in real-time, video-linked sessions from their home campus.
ICUR is student-centred and student-led, and we are currently looking to recruit two current undergraduate students at the University of Warwick to work as Student Directors at ICUR 2026 currently slated to take place in late September 2026 here at the University of Warwick. This role is due to start in January 2026 and runs until the beginning of October 2026. One Student Director will take responsibility for ICUR’s student-facing social media and marketing – if you are interested in this position, please highlight this in your cover letter.
At ICUR, we believe that undergraduates are an integral part of research culture, and undergraduate research is an exciting, creative space where new ideas are explored all the time. For this role, we are looking for people who are passionate about the world of undergraduate research, enthusiastic about supporting other students to develop their skills and experience, and interested in broadening access to research and dissemination opportunities.Successful candidates will work as part of an international team of staff and students to help develop aspects of the conference. There are four key areas of work in this role:
- Work as part of a team of Student Directors based at the University of Warwick (and potentially with other students based at one or more of our international partner institutions) to publicise and promote the work of ICUR. This includes creating and posting regular content for the ICUR student-led blog, Impact, and all ICUR social media accounts, as well as developing new ways of publicising student research opportunities on campus and online.
- Work alongside the staff organising team at the University of Warwick to review ICUR 2026 abstract submissions and support students in the lead up to the conferences, including helping to facilitate training sessions for students applying to present at ICUR 2026.
- Host and chair internationally linked sessions at ICUR 2026. Successful candidates will introduce and manage sessions throughout the two-day event, including opening and closing remarks.
- Work alongside the staff organising team and other Student Directors to plan and facilitate other ICUR related events and activities, to evaluate the ICUR Experience, and to contribute to its enhancement.
All work for this role, including training, will be remunerated.
Two roles are available (one with social media/marketing responsibility): we are actively seeking applications from individuals across all departments, subjects, and backgrounds. We’re particularly interested in receiving applications from students who are passionate about diversifying academic research and bringing new ideas to the table, as well as supporting peers in their research journeys.
Duties and responsibilities
Duties for these roles are varied and can, to some extent, be developed to suit the skills and expertise of successful candidates. Duties anticipated include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Work as part of an international student team to publicise and promote the work of ICUR. This will include regularly updating and creating content for ICUR’s social media accounts. (The role with social media responsibility will lead on this – time on other duties will be reduced accordingly).
- Work as part of an international student team to design and create entries for ICUR’s student blog ‘Impact’.
- Work as part of an international student team to manage the ICUR Student Community Teams space and to help foster a sense of community amongst all students involved in ICUR 2026.
- Work closely with event organisers at the University of Warwick to review abstract submissions for ICUR 2026.
- Work as part of an international student team to plan and facilitate keynote sessions and other relevant events and activities at ICUR 2026.
- Help manage the ICUR Students email inbox, answering queries and requests as needed.
- Organise and attend regular meetings (held via Microsoft Teams or other video conferencing platform) with other Student Directors based at the University of Warwick (and potentially one or more of our international partner institutions);
- Attend, support and help to promote student training activities in the run up to ICUR 2026;
- Host and chair internationally linked sessions throughout ICUR 2026;
- Attend campus events to help promote the work of ICUR, Reinvention and IATL;
- Explore creative opportunities to contribute to enhancing the ICUR experience by pursuing student-led projects, agreeing priorities with IATL staff.
- Present on and write about ICUR and your work as a Student Director in a variety of formats both internal and external to the University of Warwick, including (but not limited to) conferences, articles, and events.
Applicants must be available to work during the month of September and will be expected to attend the conference in person.
