Role
The University of Edinburgh is currently offering a part-time opportunity for a student to join the IS Applications directorate as a Collaboration Services Assistant - Atlassian Platforms. The IS Applications directorate deliver IT services to staff at students, supporting the entire IT Services lifecycle from identifying requirements and building a strong business case, to acquiring or developing systems and ensuring seamless service delivery. Within this role you will support the smooth operation and continuous improvement of the University’s Atlassian Confluence and Jira services by consolidating Wiki content, assisting with the deployment of a new test management solution, and providing user support for both platforms.
The University relies on Atlassian Confluence and Jira to support collaboration, knowledge sharing, and software development. Confluence serves as a central Wiki hub for teaching, research, and administrative content, whilst Jira provides issue tracking for software teams.
This is an exciting opportunity for you to gain experience in supporting service enhancements, whilst developing your communication skills by providing support and guidance to users.
You can expect to start work on the 1st December 2025 and work until December 2026. You can expect to work 12 hours per week in a hybrid working pattern split between working from home and in our office in Edinburgh, Argyle House. During this position, you will be paid £13.01 per hour, plus £2.35 per hour holiday pay. Payment is one month in arrears, meaning your first payment date (should this position start when expected) will be 28th January 2026.
Duties and responsibilities
- Consolidating content within our Confluence Wiki, supporting the streamlining of usage and improving information management;
- Assisting with the deployment of a new test management solution within Jira, including assessment and implementation of new software, overseeing the import of test cases from the existing platform, and supporting the onboarding of users to the new service;
- Providing user support and troubleshooting for Confluence Wiki and Jira, responding to service enquiries and resolving issues;
- Developing and maintaining service documentation and guidance.
Skills and experience
Essential criteria:
- A current Undergraduate, Postgraduate Taught, or part-time Postgraduate Research student at the University of Edinburgh (this post is designated for UoE student employment; therefore, you must be a matriculated student for the duration of your employment). You also must not hold the position of ‘Resident Assistant’;
- Based in the UK for the duration of the work, able to work on campus when required (we cannot accommodate individuals working overseas due to tax and legal implications), and able to attend a Right to Work Check in person if you are a British or Irish Passport holder;
- Proven strong verbal communication skills, including the ability to liaise effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders;
- Evidence of strong written communication skills with the ability to use clear, concise language specific for the purpose and audience;
- A proven ability to follow procedures and work with a high level of attention to detail;
- Demonstrable ability to work independently and show initiative;
- Prior experience of working in a customer service environment.
- A proven awareness of best practice for producing technical and user facing documentation;
- Demonstrable familiarity with document management platforms such as SharePoint, Confluence, or other enterprise content management systems;
- A proven familiarity with test management, requirements tracking, or similar software tools.

Hybrid, split between working from home and in Argyle House, 3 Lady Lawson Street, Edinburgh, EH3 9DR
