Description
Role
We are seeking a dedicated Research Associate to provide essential investigative support for our research-based applications of deep learning models. This role focuses on the development of advanced computer vision techniques, specifically object detection and classification. A core component of the post involves maintaining effective connections with our partners to ensure the successful completion of the STAR Project – Phase 3.
Duties and responsibilities
- Development: Contributing to the development of new methods, using performance metrics to test their effectiveness, and implementing these methods in Python.
- Research & Collaboration: Carrying out high-level research as directed, in conjunction with senior academic staff, and researching potential uses of deep learning models in computer vision.
- Data Management: Undertaking comprehensive data collection, preparation, and pre-processing activities.
- Technical Analysis: Researching competitive software to identify strengths and weaknesses, and producing required reports for developing a superior computer vision solution.
- Dissemination: Actively disseminating our academic research by attending and presenting research findings at academic conferences and public engagements.
- Technical Output: Developing several high-quality techniques for object detection and classification.
- Stakeholder Liaison: Liaising effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including academics, industry partners, and research support organisations.
- Professional Development: Undertaking appropriate professional development and mandatory training activities as required.
- Sustainability: Minimising environmental impact and actively contributing to the University’s Environmental Sustainability Policy.
Skills and experience
- Extensive experience in developing deep learning models for computer vision.
- Familiarity and practical experience with Python.
- Knowledge of computer vision techniques, including object detection and classification
