Role
The Learning & Teaching Academy (LTA) is seeking to appoint a Research, Data & Evaluation Intern. This part-time internship will assist the diverse work of the LTA who provide support and professional development for academic staff and research postgraduates. Individuals are based across all Heriot-Watt's campuses and seek enhancement for their teaching and learning practices at key stages in their academic career.

The Research, Data & Evaluation Intern post provides an excellent opportunity to assist with data collection and analysis, helping to contribute to data-driven decision making, and future developments in the LTA. This hybrid post will be instrumental in providing a foundation for the University to launch its new Strategy 2035 during summer 2026. 
 
The role holder will be expected to work 10 hours per week across three days. This role will last from November 10th 2025 until February 20th 2026, with a 3 week break over the winter vacation period.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Assist in collecting and cleansing large data sets from various sources.
  • Work with LTA staff to define data needs and requirements.
  • Apply appropriate statistical techniques to interpret LTA datasets e.g. Advance HE Fellowship.
  • Create visual representations to share data e.g. infographics, charts etc.
  • Communicate findings at meetings and through report writing.
  • Conduct Canvas course site audits. 

Skills and experience

  • Must be an enrolled undergraduate student at Heriot-Watt University during the internship period.
  • Ability to use data analysis techniques, tools and statistical analysis.
  • Proven track record of maintaining attention to detail and respecting confidentiality in all aspects of work.
  • Proven track record of working successfully both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work on own initiative with minimal supervision, as well as being a strong team player.
  • Ability to carry out independent research.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent digital skills including the use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and email/calendar software.
  • Good organisational and prioritisation skills.
