Role
The University of Edinburgh is currently offering a part-time opportunity for three students to join the Digital Skills, Design, and Training Team as Digital Skills Trainers. The Digital Skills, Design, and Training team provide a comprehensive range of development opportunities for staff and students, including the Digital Skills Programme, LinkedIn Learning and Edinburgh Awards. Within this role you will deliver digital skills training and resources to students and staff as part of the Digital Skills Programme.
This is an exciting opportunity for you to gain experience in the design and teaching of Digital Skills training resources, developing your communication and technology skills.
You can expect to start work on the 1st December 2025 and work until December 2026. You can expect to work 7 hours per week in a hybrid working pattern split between working from home and in our office in Edinburgh, Argyle House. During this position, you will be paid £16.21 per hour, plus £2.93 per hour holiday pay. Payment is one month in arrears, meaning your first payment date (should this position start when expected) will be 28th January 2026.
Duties and responsibilities
- Delivering training as part of the Digital Skills Programme, on a particular programming subject you have comprehensive knowledge within. This may include demonstrating software, explaining concepts clearly to participants, and providing practical assistance where required;
- Assisting in designing training and learning resources, including researching new topics for addition to the Programme, analysing and collating existing support resources, and designing/writing content for new courses;
- Attending welcome events and stalls to promote the Digital Skills Programme, encouraging staff and students to utilise the range of services available to develop their digital skills.
Skills and experience
Essential criteria:
- A current student at the University of Edinburgh (this post is designated for UoE student employment; therefore, you must be a matriculated student for the duration of your employment). You also must not hold the position of ‘Resident Assistant’;
- Based in the UK for the duration of the work, able to work on campus when required (we cannot accommodate individuals working overseas due to tax and legal implications), and able to attend a Right to Work Check in person if you are a British or Irish Passport holder;
- Demonstrable ability to use computers and technology, including proven knowledge/experience of at least one of the following programming languages: Excel, Power BI, SPSS, R, SQL;
- Evidence of strong written and verbal presentations skills, with the ability to present complex information simply and effectively;
- Proven creative skills which can be applied to designing engaging training and support materials.
- Proven experience in a similar role involving teaching others or public speaking;
- Demonstrable experience of planning and coordinating activities and workload;
- Proven interest in working in a learning and development, or information technology, environment;
- Experience of coordinating, hosting, or speaking, at public events.
