Description
Role
To provide research assistance on the project “Improving Attendance in Post-16 Education”. This two-phase study will involve (1) conducting a systematic, international review of evidence across secondary, post-16, and HE, and (2) collecting interview data from post-16 leaders, teachers, and attendance officers, and conducting a framework analysis.
Duties and responsibilities
The role will involve a range of duties, including:
1. Conducting a systematic literature review
2. Supporting the team with the ethics approval process
3. Visiting colleges to carry out interviews (some may be online)
4. Supporting with the thematic analysis of interview data collected
5. Supporting with writing up findings
6. Contributing to the development of academic, policy and practice-related publications, and supporting with dissemination of findings.
Skills and experience
• Holding a postgraduate qualification in Education (or a related field e.g. Social Research, Sociology, Psychology)
• Excellent communication and organisation skills
• Knowledge and experience of conducting high-quality literature reviews (including e.g. scoping reviews, systematic reviews or meta-analyses).
• The ability to work independently and as part of team
• Experience of qualitative data analysis
• Experience of writing and submitting ethics applications
• Excellent written communication skills, including academic writing
• Record keeping, data management and meeting deadlines will be essential for this role
• (Desirable) Knowledge of the current 16-19 education and skills sector in the UK
Location
Flexible - some home-based working will be possible.
