Role
The University of Edinburgh is currently offering a part-time opportunity for a student to join the Service Management Team as a Communications Assistant - Committee Records Service. This team creates and delivers effective IT solutions for the University’s staff and students. Within this role, you will support the onboarding and migrating of users to the new Committee Records Hub service. You will achieve this through coordinating and overseeing the development of clear communications, user demonstrations, and onboarding guidance that enhance the overall stakeholder experience.

This is an exciting opportunity for you to gain experience designing communications, dealing with a range of stakeholders, and managing and presenting survey findings.

You can expect to start work on the 17th November 2025 and work until the 20th November 2026, whilst working 12 hours per week in a hybrid working pattern split between working from home, and in Argyle House in Edinburgh for at least one day per week. During this position you will be paid £12.83 per hour, plus £2.32 per hour holiday pay. Payment is one month in arrears, meaning your first payment date (should this position start when expected) will be the 19th December 2025.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Prepare demonstrations of the committee records hub and committee sites;
  • Produce communications & guidance to onboard the new service;
  • Liaise with the Service Operations Team to ensure day-to-day service levels are met;
  • Assist & Support the onboarding and migration of committee users.

Skills and experience

Essential criteria:

  • A current University of Edinburgh Undergraduate or Postgraduate Taught student, or a part time Postgraduate Research student (this post is designated for UoE student employment; therefore, you must be a matriculated student for the duration of your employment). You also must not hold the position of ‘Resident Assistant’;
  • Based in the UK for the duration of the work, able to work on campus when required (we cannot accommodate individuals working overseas due to tax and legal implications), and able to attend a Right to Work Check in person if needed;
  • Evidence of excellent interpersonal and communication verbal skills including the ability to liaise effectively with a range of people;
  • Evidence of excellent written communication skills, with a proven ability to use clear, concise language that is specific for the purpose and audience;
  • Proven good knowledge and understanding of how to conduct surveys and present results;
  • Proven ability to use initiative and demonstrate a pro-active approach to working independently;
  • Prior experience of working in a customer service environment.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Proven knowledge of SharePoint Online;
  • Experience creating online resources or content that supports users;
  • Proven good presentation skills, such as experience delivering interactive demonstrations or training sessions for diverse audiences.

Location
Hybrid, in office at least one day a week in Argyle House, 3 Lady Lawson Street, Edinburgh, EH3 9DR.
