About the role:
This is a paid internship opportunity with Graves Aircraft Components Limited, as part of the WMG Internship Programme. This internship will contribute to the implementation of a newly acquired ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system, to aid in the company’s digitalisation of its manufacturing, quality and procurement processes.
The internship will be based at the company’s site in Birmingham, with some flexibility for hybrid working. You will be working closely with the project team, gaining first-hand experience in ERP implementation within the aerospace components sector. As part of the Programme, you will also benefit from weekly supervision from WMG engineers throughout the duration of the project.
This internship will benefit/improve your skills in:
- ERP Implementation in a highly regulated aerospace manufacturing environment
- Data migration from legacy systems to new digital tools
- Understanding and mapping high-level business processes in manufacturing, procurement and quality
- Working with key stakeholders across compliance, production and IT
About the company:
Graves Aircraft Components specialises in the precision machining of ‘strangers and aliens’ components for the aerospace after-sales market. From our factory in West Heath, Birmingham, we have been manufacturing low volume, complex machined parts for more than fifty years Parts we manufacture include nozzles, jets, match ground spools and sleeves and other fuel-line components, small prismatics and actuation unit parts.
Duties and responsibilities
You will support this project, which will focus on implementing the newly bought ERP system “E-Max” in the company based on business requirements. Main activities will include:
- Supporting the migration of core data (Item Master, Suppliers, BOMs, Routings, open SO/PO) from legacy systems into E-Max ERP
- Identifying and resolving gaps or inconsistencies in data to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Configuring the new ERP system to align with manufacturing, procurement, quality and finance processes
- Attaching engineering drawings, inspection records and certifications to the relevant products in the ERP
- Supporting end-users in testing ERP functionalities to confirm relevance and usability
- Working with compliance and quality teams to ensure the ERP supports aerospace traceability standards
- Generating operational and management reports from ERP data to enable better decision-making
- Documenting processes and findings to contribute to internal knowledge sharing
- Providing feedback to the project team on areas for system and process improvement
Skills and experience
ESSENTIAL:
- Student or graduate in Engineering, Business Management or a related discipline
- Basic knowledge of data migration tools/processes (e.g., Excel, CSV)
- Demonstrable interest in ERP/MRP systems and digitalisation in manufacturing
- Strong communication skills, able to work with staff at all levels
- Self-motivated and able to learn effectively without close supervision
DESIRABLE:
- Experience in data migration, data cleansing or validation
- Experience of working in manufacturing/business environments, particularly aerospace or ERP/MRP systems
- Awareness of quality or compliance standards (e.g., ISO 9001, AS9100)
