Role
The University of Edinburgh is currently offering a part-time opportunity for a student to join the Development Systems Team as a Web Accessibility Tester. The Development & Systems team design and develop software solutions, install, integrate, support and configure third-party products, and actively participate in collaborative open-source projects. The team also provides second and third level support for the systems that they develop or work with. Within this role you will manually test university websites to ensure that they are accessibility compliant, and produce, or update, accessibility statements.
This internship is a great opportunity for you to gain practical experience in running accessibility testing software whilst gaining an understanding of Government responsibilities around web development.
You can expect to start work on the 15th November 2025 and work until November 2026. You can expect to work 15 hours per week in a hybrid pattern split between working from home and in the office in Argyle House (Edinburgh). During this position, you will be paid £13.01 per hour, plus £2.35 per hour holiday pay. Payment is one month in arrears, meaning your first payment date (should this position start when expected) will be 19th December 2025.
Duties and responsibilities
- Manually testing websites using the agreed licensed software;
- Updating existing, or creating new, accessibility statements in Word and HTML formats with test results;
- Uploading accessibility statements to websites;
- Carrying out other accessibility tasks as assigned by the Digital Library Officer.
Skills and experience
Essential criteria:
- A current Undergraduate, Postgraduate Taught, or part-time Postgaduate Research student at the University of Edinburgh (this post is designated for UoE student employment; therefore, you must be a matriculated student for the duration of your employment). You also must not hold the position of ‘Resident Assistant’;
- Based in the UK for the duration of the work, able to work on campus when required (we cannot accommodate individuals working overseas due to tax and legal implications), and able to attend a Right to Work Check in person if you are a British or Irish Passport holder;
- Evidence of strong time management and organisation skills, with the ability to manage your personal workload;
- A demonstrable ability to learn new concepts and technologies;
- Evidence of strong written and verbal communication skills;
- A proven ability to maintain a strong attention to detail, such as within your studies or in previous work experience;
- Demonstrable ability to work well in a team.
- Proven experience of writing HTML.

Hybrid, split between working from home and in Argyle House, 3 Lady Lawson Street, Edinburgh, EH3 9DR
