To be part of a team responsible for the provision of cleaning services in the teaching laboratories, clinical simulation suites and specialist teaching facilities managed by the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. Maintaining a high standard of housekeeping within these areas under the supervision of the Senior Technician. The post holder will support other practice areas within the faculty when required.

The hours of work are 1.30-5.30pm daily from 29th September until 12th December

Interviews are likely to take place on 25/09/2025.

Duties and responsibilities

Washing (by both hand and machine) and drying of laboratory glassware and equipment.

  • Cleaning work surfaces and sinks within the laboratories, clinical simulation suites and specialist teaching facilities.
  • Returning glassware and equipment to designated sites and storage areas.
  • Operation of laboratory washing machines and drying cabinets following clearly defined Health & Safety instructions.
  • Assist with the removal of clinical and/ or other waste to designated areas, adhering to Health & Safety.
  • Other general housekeeping tasks.
  • Have a commitment to continuing professional development and to be proactive in developing as wide a range of skills as possible in order to meet the developing needs of the faculty.
  • Commitment to good laboratory and clinical standards, ensuring consistency across faculty spaces.
  • To support late finishing classes and exams (OSCEs) when necessary.
  • Support open day and outreach events.
  • Undertake First Aid training to in order to contribute to the faculty’s required First Aid and evacuation provision.
  • Perform any other duties commensurate with the job grade as reasonably required from time to time.
  • The post holder is required to minimize environmental impact in the performance of the role, seek to promote environmental sustainability within area of responsibility and actively contribute to the delivery of the DMU Environmental Policy.

Skills and experience

Experience of and ability to work as part of a team to achieve common goals.

Able to handle delicate glassware and instruments safely.

Ability to work individually following clearly defined instructions.

Ability to effectively manage own time in order to deliver a high standard of technical service.

Effective communicator with people in various roles using a variety of methods

No known allergies relevant to the role (e.g., detergents etc.)

Willingness to undertake First Aid and or other training in order to contribute to the Faculty’s First Aid and evacuation provision
