Duties and responsibilities
Key duties:
- Deliver excellent language teaching as an integral part of academic courses, as well as standalone skills programmes, workshops, events and 1:1 support for students at all levels in face-to-face, virtual and blended formats. § Enable students to develop the language skills, self-efficacy and confidence that they need to participate fully in university life and succeed in their studies.
- Contribute to the development, organisation, promotion and evaluation of effective LEAP provision.
- Produce high-quality, engaging learning resources in a range of formats.
- Demonstrate good practice in teaching, learning and skills development, ensuring practice is inclusive, active, collaborative, digitally fluent, and with real-world relevance.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to help ensure a joined-up approach to academic support and skills development.
Enabling student learning
• Enable students to develop the language skills, self-efficacy and confidence that they need to
participate fully in university life and succeed in their studies.
• Contribute to the development, organisation, promotion and evaluation of effective language and academic skills provision, which maximises student engagement, delivers an outstanding student experience and makes a positive impact on academic outcomes.
• Design and deliver excellent language teaching as an integral part of academic courses, as well as standalone skills programmes, workshops, events and 1:1 support for students at all levels in face-to-face, virtual and blended formats.
• Demonstrate good practice in teaching, learning and skills development, ensuring provision is inclusive, active, and collaborative, digitally fluent, and with real-world relevance, in line with the University’s curriculum principles and the expectations of relevant professional bodies.
• Design and produce high-quality, engaging learning resources for students and staff in a range of formats, innovating in response to the changing needs of all students. This will include contributing to the creation of e-learning resources and other digital media, using appropriate technologies to maximise accessibility and engagement. • Engage in and evidence continuing professional development of your language teaching skills (including through reflective practice and peer observations), knowledge of linguistics, relevant research and pedagogical skills.
• Contribute to the ongoing evaluation and review of our services, including designing and implementing effective measures of impact, analysing data, and researching best practice to inform continuous service improvement.
Academic engagement and collaborative working
• Engage proactively and positively and manage relationships with key partners and stakeholders in schools and related professional services to ensure student support is cohesive, relevant, effective and well communicated.

Skills and experience
Experience, Skills & Knowledge requirements:
1. A first degree or equivalent relevant professional experience
2. TEFLQ status (normally granted by a DELTA, MA TESOL or similar) OR be near to completion of a qualification that grants TEFLQ status.
3. Native proficiency or near-native proficiency in English (IELTS 8.0/CEFR C2).
4. Experience of teaching and assessing language learners, including English for Academic Purposes.
5. Ability to plan and deliver high-quality, engaging and inclusive teaching, workshops and 1:1 support that make a positive impact on language and learning skills
6. Ability to enable others to learn through helping them develop confidence, self-efficacy and resilience.
7. Outstanding communication and engagement skills, with the ability to convey complex information in clear, accessible ways across a range of channels.
8. Ability to use technology effectively and accessibly, including new educational technologies, to enhance teaching, learning and day-to-day activities.
9. Understanding of best practice in ensuring that learning activities and resources are inclusive and accessible so they benefit all learners.
10. Knowledge of factors affecting international students’ experience in a Higher Education context and the role of English for Academic Purposes programmes.
