Description

Role

This is a 33-hour post to support research as part of a project with the University’s Geography team and funded by RGS-IBG. The post holder will plan, carry out and analyse qualitative research to explore how mentoring partnership programmes could be set up between HE and A-Level Geography departments to support students completing NEAs. The post holder will be supported to conduct online interviews with A-Level Geography teachers, in-person focus groups with first year UON students, and analysis of qualitative data.

Duties and responsibilities

Research and Scholarly Activity

Responsible for establishing effective systems for collection of data, and subsequent recording and collation of data 

Undertake data analysis and compile reports and other written information as required

Team Work and Communication

Work effectively with colleagues at all levels and contribute to the achievement of team objectives

Maintain dialogue with managers on progress and delivery of research work

Develop networks of useful contacts both within and outside the University of Northampton with research partners and participants

Organisational Context

Carry out administrative duties effectively and manage own time and workload

Work within the University of Northampton policy and procedural framework, particularly in respect of legal and ethical requirements paying particular attention to equality, health and safety, and data and records security

Skills and experience
Undertaking an undergraduate degree in Geography or a related discipline.

Experience of undertaking research in a related area and/or using qualitative methods.
 
Ability to use digital tools for research e.g. video conferencing.
 
Ability to produce professional or academic documents, reports and presentations for varied audiences.
 
Willingness to undertake appropriate training.
 
Ability to work independently and prioritise tasks to manage own time.
 
Ability to engage and communicate effectively with research participants.
 
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
 
Ability to use tact, discretion and diplomacy.
