Description

Role
We are seeking a dedicated and reliable School Caretaker to provide essential support to a busy school environment.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Maintain the site to ensure it is safe, secure, and fit for purpose.
  • Perform minor maintenance tasks and report any significant repairs.
  • Inspect and clear drains, gullies, and external areas.
  • Operate and monitor the heating system and ensure a consistent supply of hot water.
  • Carry out frost and snow precautions and respond to emergencies (e.g., fire, flood).
  • Keep outdoor areas clean and litter-free.

Security:

  • Open and close the premises securely.
  • Conduct routine and non-routine security checks.
  • Perform weekly fire alarm tests and report faults.
  • Handle instances of trespass or unauthorized parking.

General Duties:

  • Set up rooms and equipment as required.
  • Assist with marking hard play areas and moving equipment.
  • Support and cover for the Senior Caretaker as needed.
  • Promote and adhere to all Health & Safety procedures.
  • Respond promptly to emergencies and report incidents to supervisors.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Maintain awareness of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
  • Promote equal opportunities and inclusivity.
  • Attend meetings and training as required.
  • Ensure confidentiality in all aspects of the role.

Skills and experience

  • Ability to carry out procedures, follow instructions, and maintain routines.
  • Basic maintenance skills, including plumbing, electrical, and general repair.
  • Literacy and numeracy skills to complete forms, place orders, and maintain stock.
  • Ability to work independently and solve problems effectively.
  • Flexibility to occasionally adjust working hours.
  • Previous experience in caretaking or maintenance roles.
  • Awareness of Health & Safety and COSHH guidelines.
  • Basic IT skills (e.g., email systems).
