Role
The University of Northampton are looking for an international student advice officer to support the existing team.
The International Student Advice Officer will support the university’s recruitment and retention activities by the provision of student-centred advice and guidance on a wide range of immigration and international student issues for the University of Northampton’s cohort of international students.
The post holder will be expected to deliver an excellent international student experience and proactively support the Senior International Student Advice Officer in implementing new approaches to the provision of international student advice.
The post holder will also be expected to contribute to the delivery of other key functions of the Immigration and Compliance team such as engagement monitoring activities and ensuring that Home Office reporting is completed in line with specified deadlines.
Duties and responsibilities
Support the Immigration and Compliance Manager in ensuring that the University is Home Office audit ready at all times hence enabling alignment with the strategic aims of the University and priorities of the department of Global Engagement.
• Support the Immigration and Compliance Manager in ensuring compliance with regulatory and legislative requirements relating to student immigration and compliance.
• To provide confidential advice and guidance to students and staff under the operational supervision of the SeniorInternational Student Advice Officer on a range of immigration and international student issues, in agreement with the Immigration and Compliance Manager, in accordance with relevant legislation, with the University's and the Global Engagement department’s priorities, and in response to evolving client needs.
• Adhere to service standards, and with the Immigration and Compliance Manager, ensure compliance with both legal requirements and the demands of best practice.
• Deliver innovative and effective ways of providing specialist international student advice interventions, which not only address the visa and immigration needs of international students, but also their pastoral care and cultural awareness needs whilst studying in the UK.
• Use appropriate and effective ways of communicating with students, staff and other stakeholders.
• Maintain appropriate and effective ways of record-keeping in relation to the international student advice service delivered by the Immigration and Compliance team.
• Contribute to the preparation, production, and dissemination of a range of information and guidance materials and events for students and staff, for delivery via a variety of mediums including but not limited to web, social media, face-to-face, telephone and paper.
• To monitor the attendance and engagement of students in the UK holding a Student Route Visa including conducting student meetings and any other related activities as and when necessary.
• Contribute to the implementation of policies, procedures and processes relating to immigration and compliance across the University.
• Contribute to the routine review of policies and procedures in response to changes to immigration and compliance legislation and internal drivers.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with stakeholders from across the university and externally.
• Issuing CASs in compliance with Home Office Sponsor Guidance.
• Ensure that all Home Office reporting tasks by the University are completed within the deadlines specified in Home Office Sponsor Guidance.
• Contribute to University strategic initiatives and other projects as required.
• The post holder will be required to maintain up-to-date knowledge of UK immigration laws and ensure engagement monitoring practices align with the latest UKVI requirements.
• To continuously update immigration and compliance knowledge by attending internal and external training courses as agreed with the Immigration and Compliance Manager.
• To deputise for the Senior International Student Advice Officer as and when required.
Skills and experience
Qualified to degree level
Experience of providing immigration advice to OISC Level 1 Essential Application
Recent experience of giving international student advice in a professional setting Essential
Experience of presenting complex information to a wide range of audiences
Previous experience of effectively following processes and procedures
Previous experience of working with external stakeholders such as the Home
A good working knowledge of Home Office Student Route Visa Sponsor Guidance and the UK’s Immigration Rules
Excellent administrative skills including a good working knowledge of the Home Office Sponsor Management System
Excellent communication skills that allow you to build effective relationships and work collaboratively Essential
