Role
The Student Recruitment team are looking for students to work at our next Open Day on Saturday 27th September from 9:00-17:00. The main purpose of the role is to support visitors on the day by showing them around the campus and sharing their own experiences of what it is like to study here at Heriot-Watt University. The day is intended for anyone who is considering studying at Heriot-Watt. Therefore, it is our opportunity to put our best foot forwards and showcase why we think Heriot-Watt is a great place to be a student. The day is structured and allows for the visitors to attend a welcome talk, subject talks, campus tours, accommodation tours and various talks about student life.

 
Training for this role will be offered on either Thursday 25th September 11:00 - 12:30 or Friday 26th September 14:00 - 15:30. The Open Day shift itself will be from 9:00 - 17:00.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Signposting visitors around the campus 
  • Car park support
  • Registering students and visitors on the registration desk
  • Leading campus tours
  • Door management and supporting with crowd control in busy areas
  • Sharing personal stories of studying at Heriot-Watt University

Skills and experience

  • Strong and clear communication, this role requires confidence to speak to groups of people
  • Friendly, approachable and enthusiastic, we want to ensure people feel welcome on campus and like they can ask us questions
  • Adaptable and a team player, there can be changes throughout the day so being willing to support the team and be flexible is key
  • Be positive about Heriot-Watt University by sharing your own stories of what it has been like to study at the university so far
  • Willing to ask questions

Additional information

Dress code: Sensible clothing for lots of moving around (practical shoes for walking, warm and waterproof layers for work outside), we ask for no ripped jeans, offensive slogans or midriff on show. A Student Ambassador t-shirt will be provided.
