We are seeking a research assistant to support a funded research project on the behaviour, physiology and welfare of urban hedgehogs. The project is focussing on potential changes in hibernation behaviour of hedgehogs in urban habitats and how these changes are linked to the welfare and survival of individuals. The candidate will be part of the urban hedgehog project and invited to take part in regular research group meetings.
Duties and responsibilities
Your role will include:
1. Radio tracking of hedgehogs during the day across various locations within the Merseyside region to map the location of nests of tagged hedgehogs and to note their hibernation behaviour. Please note that you will be expected to work on at least one weekend day.
2. Occasional assistance with night time work to track, find and check hedgehogs.
Skills and experience
Applicants should be current students or recent graduates of LJMU. Willingness and organisational ability to conduct fieldwork independently during the daytime and as part of a team during the night as well as a valid driving licence and access to a car, is required. Experience in telemetry as well as skills in speaking to the general public are of advantage.
