Description

Role

This is a paid opportunity for current Leicester students to work with members of staff in contributing to developments in our curriculum and student support.

The Curriculum Consultants initiative contributes to making the curriculum and student experience more inclusive, representative and relevant to the lived experiences of students from marginalised backgrounds.

Inclusivity can refer to factors such as race, gender, class, sexuality, disability, age and religion. We’re committed to ensuring all students are supported to succeed while at university, and we need to work with our students to achieve that.

We assign each Consultant to a project to investigate and research opportunities, or help to implement changes, that seek to improve inclusivity. As examples, previous Consultants have:

  • Recommended changes to teaching materials
  • Recommended changes to dissertation support
  • Co-delivered and evaluated a pilot programme that helped students build presentation skills
  • Investigated students’ sense of community within their department/school

Through the projects, you will build a range of transferrable skills, such as research, communication, time management, independence and leadership. You will receive support and training throughout on data collection, analysis, and focus group facilitation.

Curriculum Consultants work no more than 6 hours per week. You will be in the role during terms 1 and 2 (not working over the Christmas or exam period), ending the role and any projects before the Easter break. The work may involve a mix of on-campus and remote working and meetings. Outside of scheduled meetings, previous Curriculum Consultants have told us they love the flexibility to choose where and when to complete the rest of the working hours.

  • Produce final report, and deliver presentation, on recommendations and project outputs.

  • Share experiences with the other Curriculum Consultants, support in problem solving where needed.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues, students, external stakeholders (if applicable).
