North West Miners Heritage Association is an established organisation working with St Helens Council Archive and Heritage Service to preserve and develop the Mining Heritage of St Helens. The Group has worked with the National Mining Museum, Lancashire Mining Museum and Kent Mining museum . It has produced three Replica Banners which are in constant demand at heritage events and organised Galas and other heritage activities. 

The group is submitting a major Heritage Lottery bid for seven major projects to make a major impact on the development of Mining Heritage resources in St Helens. These include Development of a Community Archive; Development of Educational Resources; Banners and Galas Project; Organisational and Partnership Development ;Development of Trails across the Town and Forestry areas; Photographic project documenting former mining sites and miners ; Feasibility /Options appraisal on Heritage Centre.

Duties and responsibilities
Main Duties

  • Contribute to establishing the scope of the Mining archive in St Helens building on the work done to date
  • Matching existing photographs to known sites and venues
  • Organising community events to connect local people to the development of a Community archive
  • Connecting the photographic project to the archive work
  • Connecting the education resource development work to the archive work
  • Providing some quality and professional support to the work

Skills and experience

  • Project management and organisational skills
  • Communication and relationship building skills
  • Research and archiving skills Understanding of and interest in the Industrial Revolution and the history of Mining in the City Region would be a strong advantage
