This internship sits within our Community team, who support the day to day running of our creative spaces and play a key role in making sure they are welcoming, inclusive, and well organised for our residents, makers, and visitors. The team also supports the delivery of community-led projects and public engagement programmes across our sites.
As our Community Assistant Intern, you’ll gain hands on experience supporting the smooth running of a busy creative environment. Alongside front-of-house and administrative tasks, you’ll also contribute to embedding new systems and documentation following a recent organisational audit.
You’ll have the opportunity to get involved in a range of exciting projects such as our public engagement work in St Helens, our high street innovation programme in Birkenhead, and our impact reporting and evaluation. This is a practical and people focused role, ideal for someone who enjoys working as part of a team and is keen to explore how creative spaces can positively impact local communities.
Duties and responsibilities
The Community Assistant Intern will support the day to day operations of our creative spaces, with a focus on ensuring they remain inclusive, safe, and well managed. Working closely with our Community team, the intern will carry out a variety of practical and administrative tasks that contribute to the smooth running of our sites and wider programmes.
- Supporting front of house activity by welcoming visitors, signposting facilities, and helping maintain a friendly and professional atmosphere.
- Assisting with general administration such as managing shared inboxes, updating documents, and logging information in shared systems.
- Helping to implement new documentation and processes following an internal systems audit.
- Supporting the delivery of community projects, including public facing events, open studios, and workshops.
- Assisting with the coordination of creative and engagement programmes in places like St Helens and Birkenhead.
- Contributing to the collection of data and feedback that supports our impact reporting and evaluation efforts.
- Helping maintain tidy, organised shared spaces by supporting inventories, supplies checks, and workspace upkeep.
- This is a varied role that offers valuable experience in community engagement, creative operations, and administrative coordination. The intern will work closely with team members across departments and gain insight into how creative organisations operate and deliver social impact.
Skills and experience
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Friendly and confident communicator, comfortable dealing with a range of people.
- Able to manage multiple small tasks and follow through on admin or housekeeping duties.
- Willingness to learn and contribute as part of a small, busy team.
- Reliable and punctual, with a flexible and proactive approach to work.
Desirable:
- An interest in creative communities, arts, social enterprise or running public spaces.
- Some previous experience in a front of house, administrative, or community facing role (including volunteering).
- Comfortable using Microsoft Office, Google Drive, or basic digital admin tools.
We’re looking for someone who is organised, friendly, and keen to get involved in the day to day running of creative community spaces. This internship is open to those studying any subject, particularly those with an interest in arts, culture, social engagement, or community development.
Essential skills and qualities:
- Strong organisational skills - able to manage time effectively, follow processes, and keep on top of admin tasks.
- Good communication skills - confident in both written and verbal communication, and able to speak with a range of people including visitors, residents, and partners.
- Team player - enjoys working collaboratively, supporting others, and contributing to shared goals.
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn - open to taking on new tasks and adapting in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
Desirable (but not essential):
- An interest in community development, socially engaged art, or public programming.
- Some experience using shared digital tools such as Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, or simple project management platforms.
- Experience working or volunteering in a public facing, creative, or community setting.
We value a variety of backgrounds and experiences, and encourage applications from students who may not have previously considered working in the creative sector.
