As a HE student intern, you will be expected to provide support to the fast-paced and proactive Employment Pathway &Apprenticeships team. Evidencing the value and outcomes of pathway programmes is vitally important to the continued development of our work. You will use creativity and innovative approaches to capture and produce engaging written and visual case studies to create powerful stories that showcase the journeys of individuals on employment pathway programmes.

Duties and responsibilities

In this job you will:

  • Be a level 5 or 6 students from Liverpool John Moores University.
  • Complete a 100-hour placement with Wigan Council’s Employment Pathways & Apprenticeship team between Monday 27th October and Friday 19th December.
  • Gain an insight into the world of Organisational Development and how employment pathways help to support the local community and shape our future workforce. 
  • Get creative to develop case study document templates in keeping with our corporate branding using various software packages including Canva, Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
  • Assist in capturing and producing engaging written and visual case study materials to create powerful stories that showcase the journeys of individuals on employment pathway programmes. You’ll use your creativity to bring these stories to life through writing, visuals, and digital tools.
  • Act as the first point of contact for teams taking part in pathway programmes, referring onto others as required.
  • Operate in line with Wigan Council policies and procedures.
  • Ensure you operate within GDPR guidelines by regularly reviewing data held and destroying information in line with retention schedules.
  • Have a flexible approach including the ability to work in the office and remotely from home or another office base,depending on the needs of the team/service.

In this job you will need:

  • You must be able to demonstrate the following essential requirements:
  • Gain valuable insight into public sector operations, develop your communication and digital skills, and leave your mark on projects that support real change in the community.
  • Be willing to complete mandatory e-learning, including GDPR and cyber security.
  • The ability to work accurately and follow instructions.
  • The ability to plan work and manage your own time.
  • The ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • The ability to travel between locations to meet service needs.
  • The ability to work flexibly as part of a team to meet service needs, within the core hours of 9am - 5pm.
  • To be enthusiastic and committed to providing excellent customer care
  • The ability to be proactive and use own initiative.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues and customers.
