Role
We are recruiting Maths Student Ambassadors to support the delivery of a new outreach programme in partnership with ThinkHigher, part of the Uni Connect Programme and funded by Coventry University. The project aims to help young people in Year 11 from low socio-economic backgrounds in Coventry build mathematical confidence and resilience through interactive GCSE ‘Chill Maths’ sessions. The sessions are specifically aimed at young people who are at risk of not achieving a standard pass grade in GCSE Maths in the 2026 GCSE examination period.
Hours and Days
- Training – 6 hours (mix of maths specific support delivered by Coventry University colleagues and working with young people training)
- Up to 10-15 hours of resource creation time (can be negotiated) between September and December 2025 plus meeting time with the project lead from Coventry University and ThinkHigher
- Up to 32 hours of in school delivery (over 8 weeks – 4 schools, 1 hourly session a week per school) between January and March 2026
Duties and responsibilities
- Deliver engaging small-group sessions in local schools (2 ambassadors per session).
- Act as positive role models for pupils, encouraging aspiration and confidence in mathematics.
- Support the co-creation of resource materials and pupil work packs to guide session delivery.
- Gather feedback and contribute reflections to inform the future development of the programme.
Skills and experience
- Current student (UG or PGR) studying Mathematics (or a related subject with strong maths skills).
- Enthusiastic about working with young people and supporting their learning.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain agile during session delivery and deviate from planned content where necessary.
- Must be available for training and school session delivery.
- Willingness to undergo a DBS check (essential but funded by ThinkHigher).
- Interest in pursuing teaching (desirable)
