Ever wondered how we can tackle climate change through better use of the waste & recycling that goes in your household bin?

Well, this is a unique opportunity for an undergraduate with the right skills to find out more - through being part of the LCR’s journey towards becoming a zero-waste region.

The Liverpool City Region Waste & Resources Partnership has recently launched its Zero Waste Strategy to significantly reducethe amount of rubbish generated, achieve a 65% recycling rate by 2040 and contribute towards our climate change goals.
Understanding and monitoring our progress towards these ambitious targets will be key to our success.

As such, we are looking for a self-motivated and proactive individual who has a strong head for data and information, blended with excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills to help bring teams together to understand and report our data better.

We are open to academic discipline – this is about finding the right person for the role.

You will balance a hybrid mix of working from home with various bases across the LCR. The role will be closely managed and supported by the Partnership’s Manager, with a range of internal and external learning and development opportunities, dependant on your interests and goals.

(The Liverpool City Region Waste & Resources Partnership is a well-established forum, made up of the 6 Councils withresponsibility for waste collection in the LCR (Halton, Knowsley, Liverpool, Sefton, St Helens, Wirral) and the MerseysideRecycling & Waste Authority who are responsible for treating over 600,000 tonnes a year of the region’s household waste &recycling).

Duties and responsibilities
The purpose of this role is to develop & improve the LCR Waste & Resources Partnership’s approach to data & information gathering by working with colleagues across the Partnership.

This is a project-style role with clear deliverables at the end of each project phase and will fall broadly into 2 categories asfollows:

1.Research, data scoping and mapping
  • Building relationships with relevant individuals and teams within each of the Partner organisations.
  • Using those relationships to scope out and understand what data & information Partners currently collect and how they use it for performance reporting.
  • Mapping the results of this scoping exercise against our zero waste targets and performance reporting aspirations to understand gaps and opportunities.

2. Developing a new data & information gathering approach for the Partnership

  • Structuring and presenting the results of the data scoping exercise to senior stakeholders – which is an excellent opportunity to practice presenting skills in a real-life context. This part of the project also include working closely with the Partnership Manager to develop recommendations.
  • Progressing recommendations to bridge current gaps between the data and information we collect and what we need to do to monitor progress towards our zero waste targets.

You will be strongly supported through this work with a clear structure and plan from day one and regular (weekly minimum) 1-2-1s.

The role will develop your understanding of waste & recycling strategies as part of the broad climate change agenda, your research skills in a professional context and your ability to present to senior stakeholders.
