Role
AccessAbility at the University of Leicester is seeking to recruit a part-time Specialist Mentor to support students with mental health conditions. This part-time role offers up to 40 hours of work per week and is central to ensuring students receive the personalised support they need to succeed academically and personally. Mentors will provide one-to-one specialist support to help students manage the challenges created by their condition and to develop strategies for effective learning and wellbeing.

Duties and responsibilities
You will build professional, supportive relationships with your caseload and provide individually tailored mentoring sessions. This may include helping students manage anxiety, improve time management, prioritise workloads, and develop strategies to cope with stress and concentration difficulties. You will also be expected to maintain accurate timesheets as records of work, respect confidentiality in line with GDPR and University policies, and liaise with your line manager to share good practice and discuss any concerns. With prior agreement, some work may be delivered remotely via MS Teams.

Skills and experience
You should demonstrate strong interpersonal and organisational skills, the ability to take a person-centred approach, and experience supporting individuals with autism or similar conditions. Commitment to confidentiality, professionalism, and inclusive practice is essential. You will have a membership of a professional body and qualifications as recognised within the “DfE Mandatory Criteria” for Specialist Mentors (this document is available to download from: here) The details of accepted professional membership bodies are on page 9.

Location
AccessAbility, Percy Gee Building, University of Leicester. With prior agreement by the Head of Service, work may be conducted remotely, via MS Teams.
