Description

Role

To provide academic support to students with disabilities in Higher Education, this will involve taking notes in lectures, seminars and tutorials, depending on the nature of the student’s disability the notes may need to be typed up and emailed to the student. The student may also need mobility, orientation, induction support, sighted assistance and access support on and around campus. Other duties may include transcription, typing, reading and scribing by arrangement with Disability Services. Under no circumstances is it your job to provide personal care for your student, your role is purely academic support.

Duties and responsibilities

To take accurate notes during teaching sessions, which reflects the content of the sessions. To send notes within a set time frame and in an agreed format, to the student and liaise with them to deliver the notes in a timely manner. Other duties may include transcription, typing, reading and scribing by arrangement with Disability Services.

To maintain confidentiality at all times and ensure regular, consistent and timely contact with student.

Skills and experience

Educated to a degree level, or equivalent, ideally with experience in subject area or a similar field.

Experience in taking notes during academic teaching and the ability to produce succinct and accurate notes with good spelling and punctuation.
