Thank you for your interest in becoming a Check-Ins Caller at City St George’s, University of London Students’ Union (the Union). This pack contains an overview of the Union, the role and information on how you can apply. This role is open to all current City St Georges students. Graduate City St George's are welcome to apply if they have previously been a Student Check Ins Caller.
Duties and responsibilities
City St George’s Students’ Union are committed to improve your health, happiness and community and the Student Check-Ins is one part of how we intend to do this. This project aims to check in on students as they go into Term 1 as well as welcome new students to City St George's. On these calls we are ensuring students have everything they might need as they progress into Term 1.
Additionally, these Student Check-Ins happen to ensure you are aware of services and support available. The project ran successfully last year contacting nearly 2000 students. The aim is that through these calls, we are taking a proactive approach to supporting students and by focusing on student-to-student interaction we hope strengthen community.
We are recruiting up to 25 student staff members to support in administering the Student Check-Ins across 1 - 2 weeks during October and November 2025. The student staff will be mainly engaging with students over the phone from our bespoke Check-ins call centre on campus. This key project will bring students and student union closer together as well as improve student awareness of support services and tool available to them while at City St George’s University
Who are we looking for?
At City St George’s Students’ Union, we have several exciting short-term roles coming up supporting our Student Check-Ins project during the start of term. These are perfect for students looking to gain experience in an outreach and customer service role.
With all our roles you do not need to have had any previous experience, but some knowledge of City St George’s University and Students’ Union will be useful. We will fully train and support any candidate for the role; however we encourage applications from candidates with confidence communicating over the phone and enthusiasm for supporting students.
These roles will require you to work in a team to engage with new students from the diverse City St George’s student body, by phone, ensuring they feel supported during their first year. This role will run over two weeks, plus a training morning and will be based on the main City St George’s campus (Northampton Square- Clerkenwell).
This role will be on site at City St George’s Clerkenwell campus and would be for either one or two weeks from Monday 27th October to Friday 7th November. Working shifts and days can be variable during this period, we ask that you should have availability for 8-16 hours per week. If you are unable to commit to these hours per week for this role, we will be happy to discuss your availability.
All candidates must be able to work shifts across these dates and attend one training session
Training will take place on the week commencing Monday 6th October 2025.Check-in calls will take place during the weeks of Monday 27th October to Friday 7th November 2025, with either 4 or 8-hour shifts between 11am and 7pm
Job Purpose
Working as a part of a team to support and call students on the phone as part of the Union’s Student Check-Ins during Term 1 2025/26.Principal
Accountabilities
- Attend all relevant training to prepare you for the role.
- Work in the call centre team to administer telephone Student Check-Ins.
- Work with Students’ Union staff to escalate student queries appropriately
- Complete data capture requirements accurately.
- To follow all relevant General Data Protection Regulations (GDPRs).Other tasks as deemed appropriate for the role.
Skills and experience
Essential.
- Current student studying at City St George’s, University of London.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Confidence in making calls and communicating by phone.
- Basic IT, numeracy, and literacy skills.
Desirable.
- Understanding of University and Union support services.
- Experience in a similar call centre role.
- Work to a given target / goal.
- Good attention to detail
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Competent in filling out surveys whilst on the phone
Personal Qualities:
Essential:
- Content working within a fast-paced team environment.
- Comfortable attending in-person sessions.
- Positive and friendly attitude to supporting students
- Keen to provide a warm welcome to students at City St George’s, University of London.
