THE ROLE 

Our Leicester client is looking for a Technical Assistant to help set up and streaming of Live Lectures for 2025-2026. Our client runs a series of lectures each year, on Monday evenings in Leicester. The lectures are streamed live using Zoom and recorded.

It is expected that the assistant should be available to cover most if not all the lectures and a training session to be arranged at a mutually convenient time before the start of the lecture season. 

The assistant should normally arrive by 6:15 p.m. and would be able to finish by 9:00 p.m. (latest). 

The lectures are to be held on the following dates:

13 October 2025 

27 October 2025 

10 November 2025 

24 November 2025 

8 December 2025 (Festive Break )

26 January 2026 

9 February 2026 

16 February 2026 

23 February 2026 

9 March 2026 

23 March 2026 

13 April 2026 

27 April 2026

Rate of pay: £12.60

Holiday Pay: £1.52

 

Duties and responsibilities

An assistant is required to assist with:

  • Setting up the equipment required for streaming. This equipment includes, microphone(s), a video camera, audio, and video interfaces and connecting them to a laptop Windows PC.
  • Ensuring that the equipment is set up according to health and safety guidelines, for example, ensuring there are no significant trip hazards.
  • Connecting the laptop to the internet.
  • Troubleshooting issues as they arise
  • Generally providing technical assistance as required to the lecturer.
  • Ensuring that the lecture is recorded.
  • Hosting the Zoom meeting and ensuring that the lecture is clearly audible and visible to the Zoom audience. This may involve showing an identical PowerPoint presentation and videos to the audience using the Zoom “share screen” facility.
  • Monitoring the “chat” on Zoom and possibly raising questions on behalf of the Zoom audience members.
  • Packing up the equipment at the end of the lecture.

Skills and experience

Skills:

Essential:

Excellent IT skills including practical experience of PowerPoint

Excellent use of Windows based computers

Understanding of hardware issues such connecting peripherals to a PC/laptop

Desirable 

Knowledge/experience of Audio technology/techniques and associated equipment

Demonstrate good understanding of issues related to effective operation of video and audio recording

Experience

Essential:

Good technical familiarity with Zoom or similar, preferably with facilitating meetings

Desirable:

Possible experience with setting up sound/vision recording equipment such as in a church/ theatre/ DJ environment/ studio

Qualifications/ training:

Essential:

Studying for, or completed study in, a degree or postgraduate qualification in a relevant field

Personal Qualities:

Essential:

Enthusiasm and excellent concentration and attention to detail

Excellent time keeping

Ability to use initiative to work independently and to a deadline in a calm manner

Polite and well presented

Demonstrate awareness of Health and Safety in a public space

Desirable:

Experience providing technical support to non-technical users
