Role

As a ResLife Part-Time Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting the full-time Residential Life team in delivering a positive and inclusive student experience. Support the day-to-day operations of the ResLife department. The role will assist the department in delivering a high-quality service to the community of students living in university managed accommodation.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Administrative Support: Assisting with data entry, record keeping, and general office tasks to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
  • Supporting the preparation of routine reports, letters, emails, and other communication for internal and external audiences.
  • Student Communication: Responding to student inquiries via email, phone, and in person, and helping to relay important information regarding events, policies, and support services
  • Record contact with residents and take notes of actions taken, ensuring compliance.
  • Support in note taking in any student meetings and conversation.
  • At all times act with consideration to confidentiality, equality, diversity, and protection of data. 
  • Front Desk Management: Providing a welcoming presence at the front desk, handling queries and passing them onto the correct staff members with expert knowledge in their area of responsibility.
  • Maintaining a tidy and organised reception area.
  • Event Assistance: Supporting the planning and delivery of student engagement activities and wellbeing initiatives.
  • Participating in the setup and smooth running of university-wide functions
  • Offering hands-on support during high-profile institutional events
  • Completing scheduled checks of residential areas and reporting maintenance or welfare concerns
  • Supporting the delivery of regular room and communal space inspections in line with university policy
  • Assisting with move-in/move-out checks and condition reports
  • Helping ensure student living spaces meet expected standards through regular inspections
  • Promoting a safe and supportive residential environment by identifying and reporting concerns during inspections
  • Report as appropriate any welfare, health, safety, security, or maintenance concerns 
  • Be a role model to students while working in university accommodation.
  • Attend regular team meetings.
  • Any other duties, commensurate with the role.

Skills and experience

  • Understanding and experience of university accommodation environment
  • Experience and knowledge gained working to provide student support for a university accommodation provider
  • Excellent listening and interpersonal skills
  • Experience of using an Accommodation Management package (e.g. Room Service)
  • Excellent team working skills
  • Ability to work as a team or independently
  • Ability to use social media
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Genuine enthusiasm and a commitment to providing good customer service  
  • Ability to plan, organise and use initiative
