We are looking for a Credit Control Assistant to join our dynamic Income Team. This role is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in credit control or finance, ideally within higher education, who is keen to develop their skills further and make a real impact.

Duties and responsibilities

In this role, you will be supporting the Credit Control team to ensure smooth financial operations across the University. Your responsibilities will include:

Payments & Credit Control

  • Assisting with sales ledger management and debt collection for Schools and Departments.
  • Checking and updating customer information in SITS and liaising with Student Records to ensure accuracy.
  • Helping process Payment Plans and Recurring Card Payments.
  • Contacting debtors by phone/email using clear scripts and recording outcomes to progress payments.

Supporting Students & Colleagues

  • Managing the Income Team mailbox and phone lines, ensuring queries are handled promptly and directed to the right person.
  • Assisting with Sponsorship forms, Postgraduate Loans, and Tax form requests.
  • Raising proforma invoices and supporting students with fee-related queries in a clear and friendly manner.
  • Working with Schools and Departments to provide accurate updates on outstanding balances and actions required.

Administration & Guidance

  • Supporting student registration and tuition fee processes.
  • Investigating and resolving queries where possible and escalating more complex issues.
  • Maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance with University policies.

Skills and experience

We’re seeking a proactive and customer-focused individual who thrives in a busy environment. You should bring:

Experience

  • Previous experience in credit control or finance
  • Excellent customer service skills in a fast-paced setting
  • Experience working in Higher Education (desirable)

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong numeracy and analytical skills with great attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Good time management and the ability to prioritise tasks effectively
  • Strong IT skills, especially MS Office and Outlook
  • Ability to work independently while being a strong team player
  • A professional approach with a strong customer focus
  • Willingness to learn and commitment to personal development
