Role

The University of Leicester is seeking friendly, efficient, and proactive Sports Centre Receptionists to join our Sport & Active Life team. As the first point of contact for members and visitors, the Front of House plays a vital role in ensuring a high-quality experience and smooth operation of our facilities. The successful candidate will bring exceptional communication skills, a passion for sport, and a dedication to outstanding customer service, supporting our commitment to a welcoming, Inclusive and active environment.

Location: Danielle Brown Sports Centre or Roger Bettles Sports Centre, University of Leicester (Potential for cross-site working, but a base site will be allocated to you if successful)

Working hours: This role is for casual hours where required across the service. Shifts are as required as per the requirements of the Sports Centre Operational Times

Duties and responsibilities

Customer Service & Facility Management:

  • Serve as the primary contact for all visitors, members, and callers, ensuring a warm, informative, and professional reception experience.
  • Address day-to-day queries from members, providing accurate information on facilities, programs, memberships, and other services.
  • Cultivate and maintain positive working relationships with university staff, students, and community members to foster a welcoming environment.
  • Oversee access control to the facility, ensuring only authorised users are admitted and that policies are followed to maintain a safe environment.

Bookings & Membership Administration:

  • Manage bookings for all sports facilities through the dedicated online booking system, confirming reservations and assisting users as needed.
  • Administer memberships by processing applications, updating member records, and collecting fees securely in accordance with university financial protocols.
  • Provide guidance on membership benefits, package options, and fees, contributing to member retention and satisfaction.

Health & Safety Compliance:

  • Actively contribute to the health and safety practices established within the facility, including daily checks and documentation to ensure compliance.
  • Conduct routine facility checks to monitor for any broken or faulty equipment and report issues promptly to the relevant teams.
  • Implement cleaning protocols in shared spaces, helping maintain high standards of hygiene and safety for all users.

Administrative & Financial Duties:

  • Complete general administrative tasks such as data entry, record keeping, and the control of sensitive information, ensuring all GDPR regulations are strictly followed.
  • Handle electronic payments securely, including membership fees, bookings, and retail sales where applicable.
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures, securing all facilities at night as scheduled and ensuring that safety measures are adhered to

Skills and experience

  • Current University of Leicester Student
  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs, grades A-C (or equivalent).Proven experience in a customer service role, ideally within a sports or leisure facility.
  • Strong computer skills with competency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook). 
  • Familiarity with booking systems is an advantage.
  • Basic understanding of health and safety protocols, with a commitment to upholding them.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a busy environment.
  • Detail-oriented and capable of handling sensitive data responsibly.
  • A proactive attitude with a collaborative approach to working as part of a close-knit team.
  • Flexibility to work varying shifts, including evenings and weekends, as required
