Description

Role

We are recruiting for an Innovation Consultant to work with a local business to deliver an innovation project. The business provides consultancy services in relation to the promotion of sustainability and responsible climate action by businesses, communities, governments and non-governmental entities.

The successful applicant will be looking into the creation of a web application designed as a one-stop dashboard that provides information on decarbonisation and renewable energy opportunities and tracks the organisation's progress to meeting their net zero targets.

Duties and responsibilities

The Consultant will be provided with a framework around which the project activities are expected to focus. These activities will include:

  1. Market research
  2. Technical Investigation
  3. Implementation/Testing
  4. Final Report

While completing this work the Consultant will report to the company/ business supervisor on a weekly basis and be provided with regular support from the Academic supervisor and University Project Manager. 

Skills and experience

The successful candidate will need to have:

Required Skills

  • Strong full-stack web development experience (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and a backend like Node.js or Django) is essential, along with database knowledge (SQL/NoSQL), 
  • Technical research ability and sound problem-solving skills. 
  • Candidates should also be confident in writing reports, analysing sustainability data, and communicating effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Desired Skills

  • Familiarity with sustainability concepts, net-zero strategies, and data visualisation tools is advantageous. 
  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS), API integration, 
  • UI/UX design would be beneficial, 
  • Knowledge of GDPR, agile development, and climate-related data sources would be beneficial
