Role
As a Graduate Infrastructure Engineer, you will join the Infrastructure Engineering team to help deliver and maintain secure, resilient, and scalable infrastructure solutions. This entry-level position is suited to individuals with a passion for IT, a strong interest in infrastructure technologies, and a commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.
You will support and enhance core infrastructure services, including virtualization platforms, networking, and security. Working alongside senior engineers and collaborating with other teams, you will contribute to both project delivery and day-to-day operational support.
Working days and hours are Monday - Friday, 36 hours a week. Monday - Thursday, 9am - 5:30pm
Friday - 9am - 4pm
This position is office based (Festival Way, Stoke on Trent) for 5 days a week. There may be some flexibility for remote work after the probation period but this is dependent on each individual role.
Duties and responsibilities
- Assist with the support, configuration, and maintenance of infrastructure systems including servers, virtualization platforms, and networking components.
- Participate in the deployment, monitoring, and troubleshooting of infrastructure services to ensure operational efficiency and system uptime.
- Work alongside senior engineers to deliver project-based tasks such as infrastructure upgrades, security improvements, and system optimizations.
- Contribute to the implementation of IT security best practices across systems and environments.
- Assist with documentation creation and updates, including operational procedures, infrastructure diagrams, and technical knowledge articles.
- Engage in continuous learning, adopting new technologies, tools, and methods to improve infrastructure delivery and automation.
- Support automation initiatives by learning and applying scripting languages such as PowerShell or Python to streamline repetitive tasks.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including service desk, application teams, and project teams, to resolve technical issues and deliver effective solutions.
- Follow company policies, security guidelines, and change management processes while working within live environments.
Skills and experience
- A degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience/education.
- Strong understanding of IT fundamentals, including operating systems (Windows/Linux), networking principles, and general troubleshooting techniques.
- Familiarity with virtualization technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V.
- Awareness of IT security principles and the importance of best practices in securing infrastructure.
- Strong problem-solving skills with an analytical approach to identifying and resolving technical issues.
- Clear and effective communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- A proactive mindset with a willingness to learn new technologies and develop professionally.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently where required.
