Description
Role
As a Graduate Platform Automation Engineer, you will support the development, deployment, and maintenance of automated infrastructure and platform services that enable reliable, scalable, and efficient software delivery. Working as part of the Platform Engineering team, your role is to help streamline operations through automation, contribute to the implementation of infrastructure-as-code (IaC), and support continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.
This role offers the opportunity to develop hands-on experience in modern DevOps practices, cloud technologies, and scripting/programming, while learning how automation accelerates software development and infrastructure management. You'll collaborate with experienced engineers to solve real-world problems, drive operational excellence, and contribute to building robust, self-service platforms for internal teams.
Working days and hours are Monday - Friday, 36 hours a week. Monday - Thursday, 9am - 5:30pm
Friday - 9am - 4pm
This position is office based (Festival Way, Stoke on Trent) for 5 days a week. There may be some flexibility for remote work after the probation period but this is dependant on each individual role.
Duties and responsibilities
- Assist in the design, development, and maintenance of automation scripts and playbooks using Ansible.
- Investigate and resolve issues within complex Microsoft-based infrastructure environments.
- Contribute to infrastructure as code (IaC) using tools like Terraform and Ansible
- Collaborate with senior engineers to implement automation solutions that improve system reliability and efficiency.
- Support internal engineering teams with platform services, tooling, and incident resolution
- Document processes, configurations, and automation workflows clearly and accurately.
- Participate in security-focused projects and ensure compliance with internal and external standards.
Skills and experience
- A recent degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a passion for understanding how systems work.
- Aptitude for investigating and learning complex IT systems and infrastructure.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Windows Server environments.
- Basic understanding of scripting or programming (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash).
- Experience with containerization or virtualization tools.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- A proactive and curious mindset with a willingness to learn and grow.
