Role
The Business School at the University of Surrey are recruiting a Research Assistant.
We seek a research assistant to work on a project titled “Who Benefits from Generative AI? Investigating Business Models and Public Policy Implications”, funded by the British Academy/ Leverhulme and The Society for the Advancement of Management Studies.
Candidates should ideally be based in the Guildford / London area. Most meetings will take place online but you need to be able to meet in Guildford or London occasionally.

Duties and responsibilities
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
The key responsibilities of the position will be to help with data collection, focusing on mapping the business models of several key firms in generative AI (Alphabet, Amazon, Apple, Meta, Microsoft, and Nvidia), including an analysis based on their annual and quarterly reports as well as other archival data. The candidate will also help with analysis of key public policy documents, including the EU AI Act, the EU Digital Markets Act (DMA) and Digital Services Act (DSA). Depending on the profile and interests of the candidate there will also be opportunities to collaborate on subsequent publications.
Skills and experience
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
A student currently working on their PhD (or postdoc) in Management or related fields such as Information Systems or Innovation Studies. You need to have an interest in the socio-economic dynamics of digital technologies and be familiar with qualitative methods. The ideal candidate should also be interested in how value is created through firm actions and the policy landscape in which they are embedded.
