With a rich history spanning over 125 years, City St George’s Students’ Union’ is the primary organisation representing every City St George’s student. That makes the Students’ Union the representative body for over 27,000 members. 

With five Full-Time Student Officers, a team of permanent staff and the involvement of student volunteers, the Students’ Union is at the heart of activity on campus tasked with improving and delivering the best Student Experience. The Students’ Union delivers a range of services and support for its members, from independent academic advice to supporting our Programme Reps to enhance their course, to promoting the employability and development of students through our Communities Team. The Students’ Union also runs a bar and two shops which sell a range of products, including ethically sourced University branding clothing, merchandise, and stationery.

Duties and responsibilities

We are looking for a Student Communities Administrator to join our team as we look to deliver activities that create community where every student feels they belong. We’re looking for someone to build strong communities by facilitating the support, development and administration of student groups including societies, student fundraising, community projects and student media. The students’ union supports 200+ societies, community projects and student media groups across our three campuses. Alongside the wider Communities’ Team, you will support with the administration of student group activities and events (e.g. trips, balls, conferences, nights out) primarily supporting groups on the Clerkenwell and Moorgate campuses. This includes overseeing and enhancing relevant administrative processes including processing events forms, external speaker requests and risk assessments. A strong understanding of administrating events and health and safety is a must!

To support our student groups to thrive, you will be responsible for monitoring budgets, reviewing event plans and approving risk assessments. You’ll provide support for committee members in person, via email and over the phone. Providing outstanding customer service is essential to ensure we make every day better for City St George’s students.

In this role, you will also support the wider activity of the Communities’ Team including the delivery of Welcome 2025. This will include supporting the planning, delivery and evaluation of our Welcome 2025 programme.

Skills and experience

The purpose of this role is to build strong communities of students by facilitating the development and administration of Societies, Student Fundraising and Student Media. Alongside supporting these groups, the postholder helps our Students’ Union Officers and staff deliver on and off campus events such as the annual Welcome programme.

  • Experience working with, and supporting students and/or volunteers 
  • Relevant experience providing effective administrative support
  • Experience of coordinating events, including consideration of health & safety requirements.
  • Ability to work with, and deliver for diverse communities of people
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage time and multiple projects to strict deadlines
  • Proficient with technology, including the ability to use Microsoft Office and online meeting tools
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Commitment to equity and sustainability
  • Experience of successfully delivering a programme of events from inception to event delivery and evaluation
  • Experience of successful delivering projects
  • Experience delivering outstanding customer service
  • Experience in monitoring budgets

Additional information

Candidates are required to work on site 4+ days a week during term time to ensure we deliver an excellent service for students, which will predominantly be in the Clerkenwell and Moorgate. This is a temporary role for 3 months fixed term. During term time, this position may be required to work flexibly, which could include hours between 9am and 6pm. Additionally, candidates will need to be available for some evening and weekend shifts as needed
