MSc Student Mentors are being recruited to support the induction and transition of  new students onto their Masters programme in Liverpool Business School. The MSc Student Mentors will act as a point of contact for new students, particularly international students new to Liverpool.  They may provide information about student life in Liverpool, expectations of Master's level study,  and if necessary, signpost students to support services in the university. Mentors will support social events and help students navigate university digital systems both inside and outside teaching sessions.

Duties and responsibilities
Under the direction and supervision of LJMU staff, MSc Student Mentors will be expected to:

  • act as positive role models to new students  
  • maintain contact with a group of  students to provide pre-arrival and post-arrival support and guidance to living in Liverpool and studying at LJMU
  • use social media to promote events and encourage participation
  • support students in the use of digital technologies and software used on the programme
  • attend social events during induction and transition
  • coordinate and lead at least one social event.
  • familiarise themselves with risk assessment procedures
  • carry out any other duties in line with the grade as deemed appropriate by LJMU MSc programme staff

Skills and experience
1. Communication skills: Must have good communication skills and be able to express self clearly, both verbally and in writing. Must be able to accommodate their language to the needs of speakers of other languages. Must be able to use social media and other technologies appropriately.

 
2. Knowledge of university systems and technologies used on the programmes
 
3. Interest in working with students from other countries.
 
4. Interpersonal skills: Must be enthusiastic, positive and able to motivate and able to interact effectively and build a rapport with people from a variety of backgrounds.
 
5.  Knowledge of the University: must be able to sign-post students to appropriate services within the University.
 
6. Cultural sensitivity.
 
7. Personal attitude: friendly and approachable, professional attitude towards work, punctual and reliable, ability to work on their own initiative.
