Role
This role will require the postholder to manage a project to work with the Deputy Chair of Faculty (Research) to review and update the Faculty of Arts Research Pages. This will require a review of the current the architecture of the site and to recommend and create a new architecture, design and content, whilst adhering to University brand guidelines.
All work will be done using the University’s internally developed web publishing tool, Sitebuilder.
The role will require the postholder to work closely with the Deputy Chair of Faculty for Research and departmental Directors of Research to ensure the needs of the faculty are met. The postholder will need to work with colleagues in Marketing/Communications as well as Research & Impact Services.
This role requires the post holder to ensure that the content is written appropriately for the web and that web accessibility legislation is met. It is important that the content is optimised for search engine visibility.
The role requires autonomous working and the post holder must be a self-motivated individual with the ability to work to tight deadlines. This role will be hybrid.
This assignment will be 6-8 weeks initially with an ASAP start date after successful interview.
Working hours are Monday- Friday, Up to 36.5 hours a week (some flexibility around working hours offered).
Duties and responsibilities
Review of current site and planning
- To conduct a review of the current research pages and to scope a new, suitable architecture going forward (reviewing best practice in HE to inform design).
- To meet with relevant colleagues to gain insight into the shortcomings of the existing site and to gain input on the possible structure of the new site.
- To ensure that University branding guidelines are met and content is written appropriately for the web.
Website Development
- Take responsibility for ensuring the content is creative, innovative and up to date reflecting the Faculty’s vision and strategy.
- To create a new architecture for the research pages and to create content that can be easily edited after the project is over by relevant colleagues.
- To ensure the content of the new site is accurate and written appropriately for the web. This will require working with colleagues in the faculty to ensure the content is up to date and that the content is consistent and on brand, using Sitebuilder.
- Ensure that web standards, usability and accessibility are implemented and maintained and that the website infrastructure and functionality delivers an effective user experience.
- To ensure that departmental and University information is effectively communicated to all audiences.
- To enhance and expand the intranet in terms of structure, navigation and content and generate ideas to keep the website looking fresh and dynamic to meet marketing goals and deliver objectives. Organise the creation of new sub-sites where appropriate.
Training
- To provide training to staff within the faculty on the new webpages and how to update the website, where required, whilst ensuring all is done in line with University brand guidelines.
- Work closely with stakeholders to ensure that the project is well managed and delivered satisfactorily, meeting all objectives.
The above duties are not exhaustive and may be subject to change. The post holder may be required to undertake other duties within the scope and grading of the post.
Skills and experience
- Undergraduate degree or significant relevant experience.
- Relevant experience of working in a digital marketing/communications environment, preferably in a UK HE setting.
- Experience of managing web content, writing for the web and web editing. Knowledge of HTML, CSS & Java Script and experience of using content management systems and digital analytics packages.
- Experience of using the University’s SiteBuilder web publishing tool is advantageous.
- Knowledge and experience of multimedia packages including the ability to produce web optimised graphics and images.
- An ability to think creatively and strategically to develop and convey messages to a range of different audiences.
- Proven ability in producing high quality communications.
- Excellent time management and prioritisation skills with an ability to work to tight deadlines and balance competing demands.
- Outstanding organisational skills with the ability to prioritise multiple tasks while achieving a high level of accuracy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; accuracy and meticulous attention to detail with good proofreading skills. Particularly skilled at writing for the web.
- Ability to work independently and use own initiative to solve problems.
- Good team working skills and a flexible attitude to tasks and changing priorities.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders.
- Knowledge of web accessibility legislation
- Knowledge of SEO and using keywords to optimise content and webpages to improve search engine visibility
