Role

Unitemps are recruiting for a Research Helper within the Clinical and Movement Neurosciences department. The role is to work the date of 21st July 2025 and will run until 21st December 2025 part time at 14.6 hours per week . Payment is set at £14.33+ holiday pay per hour and the role will be HYBRID based.

 
The post is within the UCL Department of Clinical and Movement Neurosciences, Queen Square Institute of Neurology. The post will be based at 33 Queen Square. Professor Morris’ research group works on clinical, genetic and biologic aspects of neurodegeneration principally in within Parkinson’s disease and tauopathies.
 
The post holder will primarily assist with data collection and sample management for the PROSPECT-M-UK study (a multi-centre study which is recruiting patients with atypical Parkinsonian disorders). This post would suit somebody methodical and thorough who is studying medicine or a related degree, and looking for part-time work.
 
The post holder will develop a wide understanding of syndromes such as progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), corticobasal syndrome (CBS) and multiple system atrophy (MSA). They will work alongside a collaborative research team.
 
This post is only suitable for medical students who hold a contract with UCLH.
 
This position will be predominantly on-site. The post is for a minimum of 6 months but this may be extended.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Administering remote telephone assessments for participants with atypical parkinsonism
  • Sending out and chasing participant questionnaires
  • Sending out thank you letters to participants who have completed follow-up
  • Inputting study data into the REDCap database
  • Help with processing blood, urine and cerebrospinal fluid (CFS) samples collected as part of the study
  • Managing the long-term storage of all study biosamples on a once-weekly basis; moving sample aliquots to a racked freezer system and maintaining a samples database
  • Other tasks within the scope of the research, based upon study requirements or experience desired by the post holder

Skills and experience
Essential:

  • A UCLH contract/honorary contract
  • A good general education to GCSE/A levels, NVQ Level I/II Administration, or equivalent or having acquired substantial relevant experience
  • Excellent IT skills (Spreadsheet, Word Processing, Database, Email, Web based applications)
  • Prior experience working with patients
  • A methodical and accurate approach to work requiring attention to detail
  • Familiarity with medical terminology
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in accordance with current Data Protection and GDPR legislation
  • The ability to work without direct supervision; to manage own workload and display good organisational ability
  • The ability to use initiative and to know when to confer with colleagues or refer matters onwards
  • Excellent communication skills: fluent English, both oral and written
  • A flexible approach to work, including ability to take up new tasks when required

Desirable:

  • Previous data entry and management experience
  • Previous sample management experience
  • Experience of working in a research environment
  • Knowledge and prior use of REDCap to capture research data
